  To: buildroot

Linux kernel support the two stm32f4 discovery board since kernel 4.5
(stm32f429i-disco and stm32f469i-disco).

Use last kernel supported on buildroot for stm32f429 and stmf469 board.

Please don't use "latest version", but a fixed kernel version that you
have tested.

And therefore, keep the corresponding
BR2_PACKAGE_HOST_LINUX_HEADERS_CUSTOM_4_X=y option.

Thanks!

Linux kernel support the two stm32f4 discovery board since
kernel 4.5 (stm32f429i-disco and stm32f469i-disco).

Use last kernel supported on buildroot for stm32f429 and
stm32f469 board.

+
+There is no reason to override the kernel's default init= value, as
+this breaks userspace that assumes the kernel default of /init is
+used. Since stm32 is often used with a minimal bootloader
+(afboot-stm32) that doesn't provide any mechanism to override the DTB,
+we need to adjust the kernel command line in the Device Tree source.

Could you please read entirely the review I did on your first version?
It seems like you fixed only the issue that was mentioned at the top of
my review, and didn't scroll through the entire e-mail.

Best regards,

Thomas

Sorry, for the second revision which are not complete, I push a new one.

A little question about the kernel strategy on buildroot.

Do you prefer to use a specific kernel version or we can point on latest kernel (supported by buildroot if you don't apply patch on it) ?

Regards

Christophe

Hello,

I don't know how you have configured your Thunderbird, but the plain
text version of the e-mails is bogus, as Thunderbird does not quote the
text you're replying to. Could you try to fix your Thunderbird
configuration? This will make your e-mail replies "acceptable" for
open-source related mailing lists.

On Wed, 31 May 2017 12:42:17 +0000, Christophe PRIOUZEAU wrote:

Great, thanks.

Our policy is to use a specific/fixed kernel and bootloader version in
our defconfig, that we know has been tested by the contributor
adding/updating the defconfig. That's exactly why I asked you to point
to 4.11 specifically rather than just use the "latest kernel" option.

Thanks!

You're still removing those lines. Please keep them, but update them to
4.11.

Changes v1 -> v2:
 - change the commit header (suggested by Thomas)
Changes v2 -> v3
 - use LINUX_KERNEL_CUSTOM_VERSION_VALUE instead ofLINUX_KERNEL_LATEST_VERSION (suggested by Thomas)
Changes v3 -> v4
 - use linux header of kernel 4.11 (suggested by Thomas)

Hi,

I have a question about kernel patch, why these changes can't merge into kernel?

+Subject: [PATCH] ARM: stm32f249-disco: don't force init= in /chosen/bootargs
