Have smae problem with a VIA82xx on-board since upgrade to SuSE 10.1 (alsa
1.0.11). I do have outpu, but it's very remote. Looks like something is
muted, but in the mixer I don't see what.
Worked fine with prior version in SuSE 10.0.

Summary: Detects soundcard, alsamixer is ok, fiddled with
switches, but no audio output
Description:
Tried switching External Amplifier, SPDIF output, Mic, PC Speaker, etc ...
but to no avail. My laptop is a Packard Bell EasyNote A8, but the chipset
seems pretty standard. The output of dmesg does not show any error while
loading modules.
On full volume settings, i can hear popping sounds when switching mic, pcm
or lfe on/off. I can also hear the same loud pop when loading the sound
module.

I have the same problem on a IBM Thinkpad R52.
Tried with alsa 1.0.10 and 1.0.11-rc2 with kernel alsa code and without
kernel
alsa code but the alsa-driver. Nothing...
The OSS kernel code works but it seems that some programs do not work with
it
properly. Since OSS is deprecated in the new kernel 2.6.x series I'd like
to have alsa working here.
As the reported said there are no problems loading the kernel modules or
running the alsadriver. Even other programs do so as if the sound works,
but I can't hear anything. All channels are unmuted and set to proper
volumes.

I have a Packard Bell A8202
http://www.packardbell.co.uk/product...s00001-51.html
It says an Intel ICH6 on searches on the laptop for devices etc even tho
PB say Realtek.
I have it now on dapper but still no sound. alsa has the Intel ICH6 card
selected and volume up.
the only sound i get is clicks when i mute or unmute the sound. THATS IT

Looks like the soundcard mentioned in this thread is the same as the
Packard Bell one :
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.alsa.user/18698
Looks like an unsupported-buggy AC'97 codec.

All channels are unmuted and set to proper
volumes.

I can also hear the same loud pop when loading the sound
module.
