I'm trying to use kgdb with vmware 3.2. VMware is configured with:

serial.v2=False
serial0.yieldOnMsrRead = "TRUE"
serial0.present= "TRUE"
serial0.fileName = "/dev/ptys0"
serial0.tryNoRxLoss = "true"
serial0.fileType = "tty"

I run linux as:

        append="kgdb gdbttyS=0 gdbbaud=115200 console=kgdb"

and kgdb as:

gdb vmlinux
   shell echo -e "\003" >/dev/ttys0
   set remotebaud 115200
   target remote /dev/ttys0

-------------------------------------
Everything starts fine, but it hangs soon after:

The kernel boots fine with kgdb not enabled. Any ideas what is wrong
here?

Thanks.

Where'd you get your kgdb from? -mm tree?

I have an older stub in -mjb tree, would be curious to see if that
one works.

ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/mbligh/2.5.72

or something like that.

I have been using the one in mm for a while and tried the
one in mjb. I didn't realize how different it was from the
kgdb in mm at the time.

It didn't work ... Man, I wish I remembered exactly what
happened ... I think it just hung when I tried to connect
to the remote target host.

I was connecting with the echo -e "\003" >/dev/ttyS1 method,
and I don't even know if the kgdb in mjb supports that.
