Are there other X servers for RedHat 9 than XFree86? I need an X server
that will give me a PseudoColor visual in 24 bit depth. XFree86 only
gives TrueColor and DirectColor at 24 bit. You have to drop down to 8
bit depth to get PseudoColor visual.
Thanks, Barry

You've got a couple of options...
I'm pretty sure if you do the "setup" command from a prompt that one of
the options is to configure X.
If not, you can do XConfigurator or xf86config

The vnc server in RH 9 supports 8 bit depth, but I don't know how well
it will support your application. -install seems to work with xview, but
the colors don't flicker. :)

There is Xi Graphics, http://www.xig.com. They produce an X server which
will allow you to do overlays. You can run at 24bit depth and have 8bit
depth windows at the same time.
