Hi Greg & @ll,

just installed udev-012 and noticed the following:

in udev.c I needed to declare 
int retval;
before making the assignments for main_envp = envp
otherwise it wont compile under 2.95.4 (does the newer gcc allow that?)

Also /etc/init.d/functions is missing. Since the startup script references 
this and I dunno what it does I can not start it at runtime.
Can you please post the contents of functions?

Yes, newer gcc allows this, sorry about that.  It's fixed in the next
release.

This is a Red Hat specific config file.  There's now a LSB compliant
startup script in the tarball that you should use if you don't run Red
Hat.
