Update MPlayer to version 1.0rc2

MPlayer-1.0rc2 has been released for two years.
Perhaps we could use this version instead of rc1.

See: http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html

what about all the rc1 patches? Do they all still apply and/or are they all
still needed?

I tried applying th patches and the results were:

Failed:

mplayer-1.0rc1-atmel.3.patch

Applied upstream:

mplayer-1.0rc1-fix-alsa-output.patch
mplayer-1.0rc1-index.patch
mplayer-1.0rc1-ppc-configure.patch

OK:

mplayer-1.0rc1-largefile.patch
mplayer-1.0rc1-remove-sys-timeb.patch

It looks like the avr32 support needs reworking for rc2.

That patch certainly applies cleanly and builds, but I don't have an avr32
board to test with so I can't say much more than that.

I've compiled and run MPlayer v1.0rc2 with that patch, and it worked fine for
me. I am unsure about the status for integrating the patch into ffmpeg
upstream, but work has been ongoing for some time.

Update mplayer to 1.0rc2

This patch updates mplayer to version 1.0rc2. It removes patches that have been
applied upstream and updates the others. I can confirm this builds ok on ARM.

Are there anyone except HCE which has mplayer running properly?

I tried mplayer-1.0-rc1 with a SAM9263 kernel downloaded from
www.linux4sam.org.
I have tried with root file systems generated by OpenEmbedded and Buildroot.
It works with OE, but not with BR.

I also tried with the new 2009.08-rc2 which upgrades mplayer
and the same problem occurs. Only tested with a BR system.

I should have a a valid /etc/asound.conf and /etc/asound.state.

Some symptoms:
The status line looks like:
A: (15) (01.4) of 1700 (02:50.0) 21056% $<50>

THe first number indicates which chunk is beeing processed,
and this counts up VERY slowly with the BR root file system,
and much MUCH faster with the OE root fs.

The 21056% figure seems strange...

If I understand this figure correctly, then this
means that the CPU needs to be 21x faster to
handle MP3 real time.
It increases the chunk counter by a few every 10 seconds
or so, while the OE mplayer increases the chunk counter
a few times per second.

I now can get sound when I play a simple wav file.

Could this mean that OE uses a fixed point MP3 decoder
while Buildroot mplayer uses a floating point decoder?

Is MPlayer compiled with libmad support and is libmad used as audio
codec?

Please post the entire output from a playback, I use
a /etc/mplayer.conf to override some basic stuff.

Thanks, I checked the output already, and OE is using libmad,
while Buildroot is using the builtin mp3lib.

I have tried configuring with --disable-mp3lib.
With that mplayer uses ffmpeg [ffmp3].
This plays OK, but it takes about 60 seconds to start the song :-(.

I looked at ~/stk100x/target_skeleton/etc/mplayer.conf
and created a file /etc/mplayer.conf containing

ac=mad

and now it starts immediately and plays OK!

Thanks a bundle...

Ulf
