Waldemar, this is an issue with the Blackfin internal toolchain. Could
you have a look?

Another issue in the Blackfin internal toolchain. Waldemar, I believe

Fails to check that /proc is mounted, on build systems where /proc is
not mounted. We should add an autoconf cache variable to force the fact
that /proc will be available on the target.

I've committed a fix for this problem:

Waldemar, I though you had fixed this issue. Is this just that I need

That's with Cortex-M4. I guess the logic that says when libatomic is
available and when it is not needs to be changed to take into account

Bernd, this one is for you. I know you already sent a patch for this,
which I didn't like. Do you think you will have some time to rework
this patch?

It got broken with 4.7 kernel headers as it uses the wrong array size
macros. I'll send a fix.

I am working on it. I have a patch to solve this one, but for full
C++ support I need this here resolved:
https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=68468
I pestered the original Author via e-Mail, but he unfortunately only
commented on the original bug report, which was a result of a
misconfiguration. I tried to git bisect gcc, but it seems nearly
impossible to create a toolchain with a gcc from 2004 :(

If only Sparcv8+ and v9 is supported, we should just disable it for
sparcv8. Maybe leon3/4 works.

Need to investigate more, but I am unsure whether I can fix
the bug with my limited C++ skills.

Most buildroot toolchains do not define __uClinux_, those who
do trigger the bug.

A missing comma in configure.ac breaks the build when using kernel v4.7+
headers. A bump to version 4.13 (http://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/654388/)
fixes this issue.

Same issue with Binutils 2.26.

I think this may be a uClibc-ng issue :

The microblaze internal toolchain is build without thread support

I'm not sure about the required thread support (w/ NPTL ?)

I added --disable-pie to BLUEZ_UTILS_CONF_OPTS and bluez_utils build fine with
this toolchain. So it seems that PIE is not supported on microblaze.

Also I backported binutils upstream patch
47993b4af18c6ef1cad300f6393bf896d3cb5e5c but I'm not sure it's required to fix
this issue.

iproute2 build fine without NPTL support, tested with
http://autobuild.buildroot.net/toolchains/configs/br-m68k-68040-full.config

I'll send a patch.

> Weird corrupted tarball issue that occurs only on Yann's machine.

I have removed all locally cache targballs to get rid of the broken
ones, and restarted my autobuilder instance.

Alas, the corruption occured again soon after. :-/

I have now stopped my instance until further investigation...

all issues happen when using the git protocol; our git wrapper seem to
be having issues of some kind when creating the tarball: all issues
happen when running tar.

For a bit of background, here's how we generate the archives in the git
wrapper:

    tar cf - --numeric-owner --owner=0 --group=0 --mtime="${date}" \
             -T <(find "${basename}" -not -type d |LC_ALL=C sort) \
    |gzip -n >"${output}"

In most of the failrues, tar complains that it can't stat /dev/fd/63,
which is the fd of the process substitution for the find command:

    http://autobuild.buildroot.net/results/2ae/2aef6e3f7e6b4f403e3b978229f9d92e8df685cb/build-end.log
    [--SNIP--]
tar: /dev/fd/63: Cannot stat: No such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
sort: write failed: standard output: Broken pipe
    sort: write error

In one of the failures, the find command complains that each files it
finds does not exist:

    http://autobuild.buildroot.net/results/20f/20fd76d2256eee81837f7e9bbaefbe79d7645ae9/build-end.log
    [--SNIP--]
find: `dtv-scan-tables-0c92e5e5d3590da60acb4bcc92c19f041dc7e481/Makefile': No such file or directory
find: `dtv-scan-tables-0c92e5e5d3590da60acb4bcc92c19f041dc7e481/.gitignore': No such file or directory
find: `dtv-scan-tables-0c92e5e5d3590da60acb4bcc92c19f041dc7e481/COPYING.LGPL': No such file or directory
sort: write failed: standard output: Broken pipe
    sort: write error

So, I'll look at making the wrapper more robust. We want to catch all
failures, but:

  - we pipe the output of tar into gzip, we can't catch any failure of
    tar,

  - we use process substitution, we can't catch the failure of the find
    command.

I've already sent a patch: https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/654339/
but I'll withdraw it, as it is not complete: we still pipe the output of
find, so we'd still miss failures from find.

Ultimately, I'd like to understand what is so special about my machine
that those failures only occur on it, and on no other autobuilder...
That is proving really tricky: I have had a loop iterate over
linux-zigbee to try and reproduce the issue, but after 2275 iterations
of the loop, still no failure... :-/

Probably hardware issues, but I have no clue what kind: HDD? CPU? mem?
What does not help is the fact that the machine is 'somewhere', that I
can't reach it, so no easy way to run memtest86. smartctl does not
provide much either. I'll try to run some cpuburn soon...

Regards,
Yann E. MORIN.

We should disable PIE for microblaze, it is broken.

Hi Thomas, all.

You can find some comments about failed packages for ARC below:

Note that this failure appears not only for ARC.
Tomorrow I hope a will find some time to take a look at this issue.

This packages failed due to the same assembler problem. It has already been fixed internally.

These failures occurred because ARC toolchain hadn't PIE support. This issue has been solved too.

According to that report I can conclude that most failures above are fixed by the patch:
http://lists.busybox.net/pipermail/buildroot/2016-August/168893.html
So if you don't have any corrections or comments please consider to apply it.

Thank you for keeping us up to date of what is happening with our toolchain :)

Thanks! Could you submit this as a proper patch for Buildroot?

Thanks a lot!

This looks like it might be an issue with the musl C library used in the
toolchain, and it's SSP support(As suggested by Thomas). Found a couple of
references, but its more than 12 months old. Maybe still applicable?

http://www.openwall.com/lists/musl/2014/03/22/2
http://www.openwall.com/lists/musl/2014/11/05/3

When I disable stack-protector by passing CUPS_CONF_OPTS += LSB_BUILD=y for
this particular build, the build succeeds. Thus, for this particular
toolchain combination we can add a catch statement and add the LSB_BUILD
config for that. If that is acceptable of course.

Regards

Olivier Schonken
