Changes since v2:
* Update against master(v2.8.0-rc1)
* Tested on Loongson as mips32r2(el) and mips64r2(el) hosts.
Loongson only implements little-endian mips32/mips64 ISA.
* Fully work for 32-bit and 64-bit guests.
Fix two bugs:segmentation fault on mips64el with 32-bit guests,
blocking when emulating i386 kernel on mips64el.
* Fix some minor style problems.
* PATCH v2 12~16 are not examined due to the lack of R6 machine.
To be tested:
* big-endian mips32 and mips64 hosts.
I have tried running qemu-system-mips on an X86. The speed is awful.
The compilation of qemu did not complete over a night until I gave up.
A better way is needed to do this test.
* MIPS R6.

Without the mips32r2 instructions to perform swapping, bswap is quite large,
dominating the size of each reverse-endian qemu_ld/qemu_st operation.
Create a subroutine in the prologue block. The subroutine requires extra
reserved registers (TCG_TMP[2, 3]). Using these within qemu_ld means that
we need not place additional restrictions on the qemu_ld outputs.

Without the mips32r2 instructions to perform swapping, bswap is quite large,
dominating the size of each reverse-endian qemu_ld/qemu_st operation.
Create two subroutines in the prologue block. The subroutines require extra
reserved registers (TCG_TMP[2, 3]). Using these within qemu_ld means that
we need not place additional restrictions on the qemu_ld outputs.

32-bit condition functions(like brcond_i32) should only
compare the low half parts of two 64-bit host registers.
However, MIPS64 does not have distinct instruction for
such operation. The operands should be sign extended
to fit the case.
Gcc handles 32-bit comparison in the same way, as the
following example shows:
[a.c]
main()
{
long a = 0xcccccccc;
long b = 0xdddddddd;
int c = (int)a > (int)b;
}
$ gcc a.c -S -mabi=64
$ vi a.s
.......
sd $2,0($fp)
sd $3,8($fp)
lw $2,0($fp)
lw $3,8($fp)
slt $1,$2,$3

For n32, sizeof(long) == 4, and for n64, sizeof(long) == 8. So in the end this
change must be wrong for big-endian.
Surely using link_error, as my patch did, to assert at compile-time that these
values were never used for TCG_TARGET_REGS == 64 is better.

This problem is why opcodes like
OPC_INDEX_extrl_i64_i32
OPC_INDEX_extrh_i64_i32
OPC_INDEX_ext_i32_i64
OPC_INDEX_extu_i32_i64
exist. The intention is to keep 32-bit values in their sign-extended form,
exactly as the mips hardware manual requires. At which point all 32-bit
opcodes (ADDIU, SLL, etc) will preserve the 32-bit sign extension property.
So you *should* never see a 32-bit comparison input that is not already
sign-extended.
A more appropriate gcc example would be
$ cat z.c
int foo(int a, int b)
{
return a > b;
}
$ mips64-linux-gcc -mabi=64 -O -S z.c
$ cat z.s
...
jr $31
slt $2,$5,$4
...
If you require this patch for getting correct results, then you have found a
bug that needs to be fixed elsewhere. Can you describe the problem that you saw?

Thanks for the new version. I should be able to try this on a 32-bit BE
host during the week-end.

It's even stronger than that. It's required for 32-bit opcodes to work
correctly. The manual says:
| If GPR rs does not contain a sign-extended 32-bit value (bits 63..31
| equal), then the result of the operation is UNPREDICTABLE.

Thanks for this new patch series, there are clearly a lot of
improvements. I haven't been able to test it fully yet, however, here
are my first tests results.
I have successfully tested the following guests on a mips32
big-endian host:
- Debian amd64 with qemu-system-x86_64
- Debian i386 with qemu-system-i386
- Debian i386 with qemu-system-x86_64
It means that the regression I have spotted with the original series is
now gone.
I have successfully tested the following guests on a mips64
little-endian host:
- Debian amd64 with qemu-system-x86_64
- Debian armhf wit qemu-system-arm
- Debian i386 with qemu-system-i386
- Debian i386 with qemu-system-x86_64
- Debian mips with qemu-system-mips
- Debian mips with qemu-system-mips64
- Debian mipsel with qemu-system-mipsel
- Debian mipsel with qemu-system-mips64el
- Debian mipsel/64-bit kernel with qemu-system-mips64el
- Debian powerpc with qemu-system-ppc
However it seems that 64-bit big-endian guests are not working
correctly. It happens with either qemu-system-mips64el and
qemu-system-ppc64. The later hangs in the SLOF firmware, so it's
probably the easiest way to debug the issue. It would be nice to
get that fixed, that said as it's not a regression, I don't think
we should block merging the mips64 support on that.
I now plan to do more testing on mips32 be hosts and also test mips32
le hosts. Unfortunately I don't have a way to test mips R6 and mips64 be
hosts.

Thanks for Aurelien's first test results.
I submitted v4 patch as a feedback to Richard's and your review comments on v3.
Since v4 contains functional code change, should we do this test again on v4?
Really sorry for this burden.
