rdma-core make install is failing

rdma-core make install is failing

Greetings Team:



I was trying to install rdma-core, on CentOS 7.2(Kernel 4.9.28)

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but make install is searching for
"/root/software/rdma-core-master/build/lib/libbnxt_re-rdmav2.so".

After running build.sh I ran make install and get this error, I also
checked the build.sh didn’t create this library
(libbnxt_re-rdmav2.so):

Could you try same steps with v13 tag and see if it still fails?

Yes,

The build.sh script is intended for the easy development and it builds the
library in place. In order to install the library, you should follow
one the following options:
1. (Preferable) Build RPM packages by using buildlib/cbuild script.
2. Write your custom build.sh script with correct paths and -DIN_PLACE=0

The "make install" command is not supposed to work on the result from build.sh.

There is nothing special about bnxt_re - it should build in all cases,
unless your source tree is older than the patch. Are you sure your
build step is not failing for some reason?

Looks to me like a build problem, install assumes a successfull build,
if it expects bnxt_re then it should have been built.

The other option is your build output tree got confused when you
switched between a tree before/after bnxt_re introduction, but even that is
supposed to work automatically.

I did couple of experiments and removed bnxt_re from the list of
providers, "make install" now fails exactly the same way for cxgb3. If
we have "make install" target it should work cleanly instead of
failing with errors or confusing outputs.

Jason,

They are building with build.sh script with -DIN_PLACE=1.

It is documentation issue on the rationale of building _in_place_ and why
installation is not needed for the developers and how RPM/DEB files
of rdma-core are generated.

Let me see if I can make 'make install' fail with a more sensible
error in this case.

As you said, 'make install' with '-DIN_PLACE' is not allowed or sane.
