Hi everyone,
I am putting together the Advisory Board budget for 2016. Besides items that are operational and spending on a new HW for the Test Lab, are there any items which I should add that help the developer community. Things that have been raised in the past, were
* Easier hosting of personal git repos on a git hosting service
* Development of code standards checking tools
* Other tools (e.g. fixing up maintainers.pkl and similar)
Feel free to let me know some ideas, with if possible links to some suppliers. I will need to have a draft budget together by next Tuesday. So I do need input by Friday.
Cheers
Lars

I think all are good ideas and nice and useful things.

If we have to pick one, priority, IMO, should be given to automatic
code and style checking. It is something we need quite badly, and it's
hard to do (or, at least, time consuming) because of the various
existing style in our codebase.

Dario,

thank you for the feedback.

Does anyone else have any? One item that was raised when I chatted to a few people was to see whether we can include something like https://fuzzing-project.org/ or http://lcamtuf.coredump.cx/afl/ into the Xen Project Test Lab. This may not be quite as easy as it seems, but Ian Jackson has some ideas.

This would probably have two angles: a) an infrastructure angle, b) a tooling side with maybe a custom hypervisor build. It is not yet clear at this stage how much effort it would be to do this, but I see a number of possibilities to fund it
a) Just use normal Xen Project Budget (I don't think this would be something which is feasible if more development work is required)
b) See whether we can get some additional funds from initiatives such as CII (Core Infrastructure Initiative)
c) See whether this is something where a group of vendors in the community would be willing to step up and collaborate and help with manpower
d) See whether this is something where a group of vendors in the community would be willing to provide extra funds
e) A combination of all of the above

Assuming we could get funds/resources, then there are two ways of doing this in principle: 1) resources from community members, 2) hire a contractor on behalf of the project, 3) provide a grant to someone who has the right skills and can drive this forward or 4) a combination of all.

For now, I just wanted to get a sense of whether you think this is valuable and if so, I can add a place-holder to the budget and get this raised at one of the next Advisory Board meetings. I can also add this to my community plan.

I can also check with the Linux Foundation on what they have learned during CII and what is maybe realistic based on their experience.

Best Regards
Lars
