Hi all,
I just uploaded gMFSK v0.5 to hes.iki.fi:
http://hes.iki.fi/pub/ham/unix/linux/hfmodems/
There you will find a tar.gz source package, a source RPM and a binary
i386 RPM for Red Hat 8.0.
I release this version now not because it's ready but because if I don't
release it now, I will never release it. It's up to you to find all the
bugs. :-)
This is a rather extensive re-write as I have switched to using GTK+ 2 /
Gnome 2. Consequently there are still some unimplemented features compared
to v0.4.1.
The most important new features are the port to GTK+ 2 / Gnome 2 and the
new modems: MFSK8, (Q)PSK31, MT63 and FeldHell. FeldHell is RX only for
now. I have previously written a Hellscreiber program for GTK+ 1.x but
never released it. Now I need to figure out how to do the character
rendering for TX in GTK+ 2.
PSK31 and MT63 borrow a lot from other peoples code so they should work
pretty well. However MT63 has no support for the extended features in
Nino's program or MixW. MFSK8 seems to work but is pretty much untested.
Bear in mind that this is very much work in progress. All bug reports,
feature requests and contributed code is welcome, though I reserve the
right to select what will make it to the next release... :)
Last but not least there is the name issue. The program is not anymore a
collection of various M-ary FSK modems, there are PSK, OFDM and Fuzzy
modes as well. So the name is not the best one anymore. Suggestions for a
new name are welcome!
Now, share and enjoy!

Neat! Compiled easily on Debian and I'll upload the package shortly.
You have a great collection of modes. I'm looking forward to trying it
on air.

Tough decision! You could always borrow parts of similar programs' names
an add a G prefix :-) Like gMix or gScope or something. But there should
be a better option.
One query about MFSK16/8 mode: when idling it still sends a lot of tones.
IZ8BLY's Stream sends a lot of pure carrier with occasional tones. The
pure carrier while idle or at the start of a transmission makes it a lot
easier for the RX station to tune.

What about Tomix or Tomisk ?

It doesn't on my machine (Slackware 9.0). If tried with both fftw-3.0 and 2.1.5
but in both cases configure gives an error.
configure: error: FFTW libraries not found!!!
Does anybody know a way how to solve this?

Could you send me the list of files installe by your FFTW packages?
In the past various packagers have used different library names
when packaging FFTW and this has caused problems detecting it...

It works here on Slack 9.
Grep your /etc/ld.so.cache to be sure libfft is in it.
When I compiled fft-2.1.3, it was necessary to :
./configure --enable-shared
or libraries was not cached.
kindly,
Alek

Adding --enable-shared did the trick.
(I should have noticed that the .so files were not there....)

Hi,
Now that I've got gmfsk to compile, I run into another problem.
Until now I didn't get it to produce any sound yet. (sound works on that
system. Other applications can use the sound card)
There are 2 ways that I can make gmfsk lock up.
1. click the "Abort transmission immediately" button.
2. click the "Mode" pull-down menu and try to select another mode.
There are no messages in /var/log/syslog and /var/log/messages
I'm using fftw-2.1.5, kernel 2.4.21 glibc-2.3.1 and all were compiled
with gcc-3.2.3.
Any ideas? Can somebody point me in the right direction?

In what way does it lock up? Just the program hangs or all X programs or
your whole system?

Just finished compiling it on a SuSE 8.1 box.
Although I needed to install a bunch of Gnome libraries, as well as the fast
Fourier libraries, no Funny Business was required.
It's going great on the IceWM desktop.
Pretty impressive...even Feld-Hell :-)

Arno,
With strace, check if the program is hanging on a system call (read,
write, ioctl more precisely). I have found this problem few times with OSS
Free. Most recently with a laptop the problem was resolved using alsa.

Are you getting any sound input? I mean does the waterfall show any
noise?
> 1. click the "Abort transmission immediately" button.

This would indicate that the current RX thread is stuck somewhere
(and the rest of the program is waiting for it to complete). It could
be a blocked open() or read(). Are you sure no-one else is having the
sound card open?
Edson's idea is also good. Knowing where exactly it is stuck is
valuable information.
Oh, does the CPU load increase when gmfsk is locked up?

I have no other program running that would use the sound card. Th elock
ups also occur when I use a simple windowmanger like twm.

They can find the solution when searching the linux-hams archive.
The problem was indeed solved when I use ALSA.
