This patchset aims to expand the cgroup_lib shell library to simplify
and centralize the whole mounting and cleanup process that can get
rather confusing and redundant when writing cgroup controller tests from
a shell environment. This is done by having the shell library make calls
to the C cgroup API from a binary utility.

In this patch set there are a few tests that have been extensively
rewritten to work with the new test API and to use the new functionality
from the cgroup lib. Because the test Cgroup lib handles mounting for v1
and v2 controllers, some tests were modified to also work under cgroup
v2. Some tests that were written for v1 controller also effictively test
v2 controllers, while others were written to test v2 controllers in the
spirit of the test or skipped outright.

Luke Nowakowski-Krijger (19):

Modify tst_cg_print_config to be easily parsed by sscanf so that it can
later be consumed by tst_cg_load_config.

Prints out root info of each controller found as well as the minimal
associated state needed to cleanup mounts and dirs made my tst_cg_require.

Signed-off-by: Luke Nowakowski-Krijger <luke.nowakowskikrijger@canonical.com>

v2: Remove "mounted_drain_dir" as mounting ltp dir and drain dir happen
at the same time
v3: Print config to be scanf friendly to be much easier to consume.
Rename variables to reflect the variables used in the library for
simplicity.

Add an option that would allow to create a test directory with a

Add a define for max controller name that will be useful for parsing
controller names from strings and helps avoid having unexplained numbers

Add the TST_TOSTR macro which uses a preprocessor trick to concetenate
variables into strings.

Useful when needing to create strings from other #define variables.

Implement tst_cg_load_config which consumes the state given by
tst_cg_print_config to update the internal test state to reflect
the given config.

This allows for programs using the cgroup C API to load and reload
state, allowing functionality such as calling tst_cg_require and
tst_cg_cleanup to function properly between programs or between
invocations of a binary using the C API.

v2: Add root null check in parse_root_config.
Remove checking for ltp_drain_dir key from config as it was
    redundant.
    Remove unsued variable in parse_ctrl_config.
    Cleanup some compiler warnings.
v3: Rewrite to consume each line of the config with a scanf to make
the parsing much simpler while using new config variables.
v4: Modify CONFIG_FORMAT to have variable delimits for sscanf to make it
more safe. Add extra checks for sscanf reading.

Add the rest of the controllers that are tested in LTP controller tests
so that they can be mounted using the cgroup api.

Control files should be added on an as needed basis.

Mounting the v1 blkio controller while v2 io controller is mounted
unmounts the io controller, triggering a tst_brk that the number of
controller has gone down.

Because these controllers don't seem to be compatible, tst_brk with
TCONF and report that we refused to mount the blkio controller while the
io controller is mounted.

Implement a binary utility that creates an interface to make calls to
the cgroup C API.

This will effectively allow shell scripts to make calls to the cgroup C
api.

This function exists in the older test.sh and should be added here so
that easy access can be made to map the flag to return values by
programs and vice versa.

Update the cgroup_fj_* tests to use the newer test lib and to use the
updated version of the cgroup lib which handles mounting and unmounting
for both v1 and v2 controllers.

The tests were modified to accommodate testing the v2 controller
interfaces where it still made sense, and in other places tests were
skipped as they were testing using specific parts of the v1 interface
that doesn't exist on v2 controllers.

Also updated the licensing info at the beginning of the file with SPDX
license identifier.

v2: Remove exist_subsystem() function.
Correct spelling mistakes in commit message.

Update memcg_control_test to use the newer test lib and to use the newer
cgroup lib which enables the memory v1 and v2 controller to be tested.

Also updated to newer SPDX license identifier.

  To: ltp, rpalethorpe, liwang

Update the tests in memcg/regression/* to use the new test lib and the
newer cgroup lib to enable testing when either v1 or v2 memory
controller is mounted. Only some tests still made sense to be testing
with the v2 memory controller, otherwise they were skipped.

Also updated to the newer SPDX license identifier.

v2: change version numbers to 2 instead of v2.

Update the test to use the newer cgroup lib which enables the testing of
both v1 and v2 memory controllers and makes the setup and cleanup much
simpler.

Update memcg_lib.sh to uses the newer cgroup lib to cleanup the mounting
and checking of the memory controller.

There are still some tests that make sense for v2 and should be modified
in a future patch, but since most of the tests are testing specific v1
memory controller features lets just skip it for now if v2 is mounted.

Update the test to use the newer cgroup lib which handles mounting for
v1 and v2 controllers enabling them both to be tested and cleaning up
the mounting and cleanup process.

The older function in the cgroup lib 'get_cgroup_mountpoint' has been
removed, so instead replace it with its old functionaility to get
mountpoint.

Also use the newer cgroup lib require operation to mount and cleanup a
cpu controller.

Hello Luke,

I'm happy with this. Although perhaps there will be some issues with the
tests because there are quite a lot of changes. Would be nice to get it
into the next release.

For the whole patch series:

include/tst_common.h would be probably a better place.
Because tst_test_macros.h contains tests which call TEST() helpers.

At least 3 tests have:
#define str(s) #s (or STR)

(testcases/network/stress/route/route-change-netlink.c
testcases/kernel/controllers/freezer/vfork.c
testcases/kernel/pty/pty04.c)

therefore IMHO it'd be better to define:

Good catch! I'm just not sure if it wouldn't be better to use tst_res(TCONF,

Because with tst_brk we're not skipping the test but quiting, right?
That's not true for tst_cgctl.c used in shell API (your changes),
but it'd be for tests which use C API.

Hi Luke,

I suppose this patchset supersedes your PR #933, thus I closed it.

FYI If I remember correctly we intended to slowly rewrite all cgroups tests from
shell to C (that's general approach due shell being fragile and less reliably,
in long future shell API may disappear). But to add v2 support in a meanwhile
should be ok. Richard, Li or Cyril are the experts for LTP cgroups tests to
decide this.

Kind regards,
Petr

As I wrote in previous patch likely we can avoid tst_flag2mask in new API.

In few cases where needed we hardwired numbers (IMHO POSIX shell does not
support constants, which would be better than variables which can be changed).

In this case you could probably use ROD() or EXPECT_PASS_BRK().
We use ROD() for external commands, thus support only TBROK on 0,
but it should be probably safe to add TCONF on 32. If others consider it
dangerous, we can add another function in tst_test.sh, e.g. ROD_LTP() which
would expect LTP exit codes.

Just minor thing, anything starting with underscore is reserved for libc
and kernel. So we try to add the underscore at the end instead when
defining intemediate macros. This one should be TST_TO_STR_() instead.

Or we can just passthrough the result, as long as it's non-zero we can
do exit $ret and be done with it.

+1 (that would suggest to use ROD)

Please, rebase the code for new version. You'll have to for cgroup_lib.sh put
'. tst_test.sh' to the end and also '. cgroup_lib.sh' in the tests also at the
end - required by 04021637f ("tst_test.sh: Cleanup getopts usage").

Right, but Luke's patchset does really help stabilize current Cgroup shell
tests, I think it's great to have them at this moment. At least it makes use
of the Cgroup C API and that's substantial progress:).

I submitted a new version of the changes, however I found that ROD does not
seem to play nice with sending output to a variable (e.g. var=$(command)).

Also reflecting on it, I think it would be better to propagate the TCONF
that comes from tst_cgroup.c so that the errors make a little more sense
instead of getting a TBROK when the error previous was TCONF. This also
makes sense as test frameworks (at canonical) usually parse TBROK as fails
and TCONF as skips in our testing framework, so having a TCONF would just
propagate the status in tst_cgctl and make things make a little more sense.

The only issue, like you said, is in hardcoding the 32 return value. If you
guys think its safe I think thats the best way to go.

Let me know. I submitted the patches to the ML. Sorry for the long hiatus
BTW :) Ive been lagging on getting these patches out forever.
