Hi,

might this be related to this bug I reportet some time ago?

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=103489

I currently work around it be reverting the following commits:

Seems unlikely. I only see a single "vblank wait timed out" splat when
the display goes off, and no machine hangs.

I've been testing this patch for a week and haven't seen the dmesg splat
anymore.

I'll give it a spin, thanks. It'll take some time to have any certainty
it's fixed though.

Can you try this patch ? I noticed there is a new API to use to wait for
flips instead of what we are using now.

Thanks,
Andrey

Subject: drm/amdgpu/display: Switch to drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_flip_done

This new helper function is advised to be used for drviers that
use the nonblocking commit tracking support instead of
drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_vblanks.

As you mention this and also that this happens intermittently I would
suspect a race between page flip and DPMS(OFF) IOCTLs so by the time
drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_vblanks is called from page flip the DPMS
IOCTL already turned vblank off, but do_aquire_global_lock should
protect exactly from such a race so maybe something broke around there.
Maybe putting a WARN_ON(vblank interrupt status != ON) before waiting
on it can shed some light on this.

Thanks,
Andrey

Michel,

Would you mind attaching the full dmesg? We'll have a look.

Thanks,
Jordan

I sometimes get the attached dmesg splat when the GDM login screen times out and fades to black (presumably specifically when it finally sets DPMS off, which disables the vblank interrupt).

I've seen this for the first time today, so it might have been introduced by one of the DC changes which landed in amd-staging-drm-next since yesterday. But since it doesn't happen every time, I can't be sure of that yet.
