Have you tested the latest patch? Any working .config file?
I just tested it, seems can't boot.

I have pushed the patch, along with my fix, to my git tree, so that
the patch could be further polished. It is in linux-2.6.29-stable-ftrace branch.

http://repo.or.cz/w/linux-2.6/linux-loongson.git

BTW, it seems linux-mips@vger.kernel.org is not an alias of
linux-mips@linux-mips.org, since I haven't seen our previous emails appear in
linux-mips ML's archive. So I have added linux-mips@linux-mips.org to CC list.

When this patch is more ready to be included, we'd better include LKML in CC
list, too. Because there are more ftrace gurus which could give advices to this
patch.

yes, i have tested it on qemu/malta, the attachment include a
configuration & an init ram fs: initrd.gz

boot it:

$ qemu-system-mipsel -kernel vmlinux-qemu-malta-ftrace -initrd
qemu-malta-initrd.gz -append "root=/dev/ram0 init=/bin/sh
console=ttyS0 ramdisk_size=3000"  -nographic -M malta -hda /dev/zero

and also, i just test it on loongson2f(fuloong 6003) with the
configuration file: defconfig-fl-rt-ftrace, but configured only as
serial port debugging mode via a minicom, so, you need to add the
other kernel modules if not have a serial
port :-(

ooh, it's my fault :-) linux-mips@linux-mips.org is the right one~~

I will check whether there is any difference between the config caused the
problem.

At the meantime, would you please try my git tree, to see if it works?

Thanks!

Still no luck. Maybe you are using a different loongson 2f patchset, not the
one in my git tree. I know lemote has a to-mips branch, maybe you are using that?
I tried to merged it with my tree yesterday, but haven't finished yet.

Anyway, would you please show me the whole source you are using?

Thanks!

[-- Attachment #1: Type: text/plain, Size: 327 bytes --]

I got ftrace working on fuloong 2f box, finally.

The patch could be get here:
http://repo.or.cz/w/linux-2.6/linux-loongson.git?a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/linux-2.6.29-stable-ftrace-from-wu

It is the second last patch in the above git repo.

Also I have attached a working config for fuloong 2f box and a test script.

thanks very much!

I have read your test script, which seems only test the static function
tracer, not include the "dynamic function tracer" and "function graph
tracer". since both of them are ported to mips.

currently, "dynamic function tracer" works well, but "function graph
tracer" maybe crash for some NMI exceptions, need to be fixed later.

I pulled this patch into my local tree to try it out. The attached patch
removes spurious warnings about linking pic and non-pic object files.

It might be better to pass KBUILD_CFLAGS into the script to get the same
build options as the rest of the kernel. Was there a reason not to do this?

Regards
Chris

This is a "history problem", for not modify the original source code of
scripts/recordmcount.pl a lot, I just added a line to pass
the "endian" argument in from scripts/Makefile.build

ifdef CONFIG_FTRACE_MCOUNT_RECORD
cmd_record_mcount = perl $(srctree)/scripts/recordmcount.pl "$(ARCH)" \
+     "$(if $(CONFIG_CPU_BIG_ENDIAN),big,little)" \
     "$(if $(CONFIG_64BIT),64,32)" \
     "$(OBJDUMP)" "$(OBJCOPY)" "$(CC)" "$(LD)" "$(NM)" "$(RM)" "$(MV)"
"$(@)";
endif

but current method is not flexible, currently, the other compile/link
options are ignored or hard-coded there. so, a substitution of
implementation method should be considered. but pass KBUILD_CFLAGS seems
not enough for we need make up the options for cc, ld, objdump, objcopy
tools in scripts/recordmcount.pl. perhaps CFLAGS, LDFLAGS and something
else should be passed from scripts/Makefile.build to
scripts/recordmcount.pl respectively.

thanks!

No, as far as I can say that list is dead. It's years that the list last
came to my attention and actually I thought it had been deleted as duplicate
lists for essentially the same purpose are causing confusing and postings
going down the drain unnoticed.

Any of you subscribed there, is there activity?

According to the postmaster of vger there is primarily spam on the list
and he agreed to remove the list. So this posting cc'ed to it should
hopefully bounce or at least be the laster one :-)
