Hello,

i test xen-4.0.0-rc1.
Dom0 seams to work, but i can't start a PV DomU.

It seams that the kernel doesn't load initrd an hangs there.

Without initrd the kernel can't mount / (root).

What do you need?

Stefan Kuhne

PS.: On Dom0 stratup i get "Debug" messages on tty.
Who can i turn this off?

Please paste the "xm create -f /etc/xen/guest -c" console log from the guest.

It looks as the initrd is executing fine. Not sure if the initrd
has switched root, thought it looks as it has.

This is where the initrd starts.

I think the problem is you have made the console not be hvc0. Or in other
words, the rest of the system is outputing to another device that you
are not looking at. It could be very well going to the framebuffer,
thought it seems more likely it is going to netcon0. And I don't think
netcon0 is initialized at that point, so it is going to >/dev/null in
essence.

Add this to your command argument 'console=hvc0' for your guest.

What if you use "console=hvc0" instead?

Are you using pygrub or kernel+ramdisk defined in /etc/xen/<guest> ?

Using config file "/etc/xen/xm/xmTest-Eis2".
Error: name 'hvc0' is not defined
eisxen #

I think second.

kernel = "/boot/vmlinuz-xen"
ramdisk = "/boot/initrd-xen.gz"
memory = 64
name = "Test-Eis2"

It's an option for the _kernel_, not for use in xen cfgfile.
See below.

So you should have in /etc/xen/<guest> something like:

extra = "console=hvc0"

Did you add that before or after your other extra line? You had the
'xencons' defined somewhere - was it in the root or extra stanza?

Did you remove the netconsole? Also try with more memory..

This is the same initrd like Dom0.

Than i'll test an older DomU Kernel.

I think you need to append "-9" argument. That is what 'mkinitrd' does:

(cd $MNTIMAGE; findall . | cpio -H newc --quiet -o) >| $IMAGE || exit 1

if [ -n "$compress" ]; then
    gzip -9 < $IMAGE >| $target || rc=1
else
    cp -a $IMAGE $target || rc=1
fi

I've test Dom0 2.6.31.6 and DomU 2.6.24-24-xen from Ubuntu.
DomU works fine.

Which part of .config should i post?
