Hi,

I have installed a debian distribution from scratch (debian-504-i386),
latter I have installed the libxenomai, libxenomai-dev,
linux-patch-xenomai, xenomai-doc & xenomai-runtime
package included in the distribution.

In order to complete the installation, which are the next steps I should
follow ?

Best wishes,
Ramon

Hi,

I follow the step in

http://www.xenomai.org/index.php/Building_Debian_packages

It is said :

wget http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/linux-2.6.32.11.tar.bz2
&& tar -jxf linux-2.6.32.11.tar.bz2 && cd linux-2.6.32.11

and latter

/usr/src/kernel-patches/i386/apply/xenomai

Unfortunatelly the system replies
No "Xenomai realtime kernel patches" patch found for kernel version 2.6.32.11

What I'm doing wrong ?

any idea ?

Ramon

What version of Xenomai are you trying to install? The instructions are
for Xenomai 2.5.3.

Maybe instead of asking the same question again and again, you could
answer the question I asked? What version are you trying to install?

Also, please CC the mailing list.

Hi

At this moment I don't care which is the concrete version a get
installed (this is why I didn't
reply to this point). My only interest is obtaining a Xenomai system
installed in order to learn how in works.

As I'm following the steps in

http://www.xenomai.org/index.php/Building_Debian_packages

I assumed that I was trying to install Linux 2.6.32.11 and Xenomai 2.5.3

The howto also says:
"This howto was written for Xenomai 2.5.3, please use the latest stable
Xenomai release and adapt the version numbers accordingly."
I do not see how the howto could be made more clear about that.

The exact kernel versions available depend on the version of Xenomai you
are using. When a version is released, we try hard to make it work with
most past released kernel versions, but we can not predict the future
and make it work with all future kernel versions.

You have installed a certain version of a Xenomai debian packages. Just
because the howto you read talks about Xenomai 2.5.3 will not make
apt-get or aptitude guess that version through telepathy. That is not
the way it works. If you want to know what versions of Linux you will be
able to install with this certain version of Xenomai, you have to know
what version you installed.

There is no way around.

If you follow all steps in the howto, you'll have these versions installed.
I have tested the howto using debian lenny and ubuntu lucid.

There are two different ways to get the xenomai source:
 1. using git -> section 2.2
 2. tar.bz2 download -> section 2.3

Try the section 2.3 "Building Xenomai packages from a tar.bz2 archive" variant and skip section 2.2.

If you did all steps from the section 2 (except 2.2), then list the installed kernel-patches
using "ls -1 /usr/src/kernel-patches/diffs/xenomai".

If there is no 2.6.32.11 patch something went wrong.
If there is a patch for 2.6.32.11 go on with section 3 "Building a Xenomai patched Linux kernel package".

I guess you started directly with section 3 after installing xenomai 2.4.8 from the debian archive,
or you simply missed the section 2.5 "installation" after building 2.5.3.

Verify whether there is a patch for that kernel with the command 'dpkg
-L linux-patch-xenomai'
