It sounds like the user has some left over LDM headers on the disk but
is no longer using LDM.  Parted does not recognize the disk as LDM,
but grub does.  I am guessing that this is because grub is failing to
skip the LDM check if the dos partition table does not show it is an
LDM partition?

Got another bug report with attached dump of the start and end of the
disk that does indeed show left over LDM headers.  I think the ldm
probe code needs to check for a valid dos partition table containing
an LDM partition.
