Hello all,

As usual, here is an analysis of yesterday build failures. I'd like to
try to keep the number of failures as low as possible throughout the
development cycle, so that during the debugging part of the cycle, we
can really try to get down as much as possible.

Sonic, Aaron, Ezequiel, Samuel, Gustavo, Eric, Anton and Alexander,
there are questions for you below, please read on :-)

The infamous:

/home/test/test/1/output/host/opt/ext-toolchain/bin/../lib/gcc/i686-unknown-linux-uclibc/4.6.3/../../../../i686-unknown-linux-uclibc/bin/ld: attempted static link of dynamic object `/home/test/test/1/output/host/opt/ext-toolchain/bin/../lib/gcc/i686-unknown-linux-uclibc/4.6.3/../../../../i686-unknown-linux-uclibc/lib/libstdc++.so'

Someone needs to look into this.

Fixed by the merging of Samuel's patches on Python.

Blackfin issue. Sonic, Aaron, can you look into this?

Eric, can you look into this problem? A patch was sent for this at
http://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/337162/, but I believe it will fix
some cases, but break others.

Samuel, a Python issue, can you investigate? Maybe it is fixed by your
patch http://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/337242/ ?

I'll apply http://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/337242/ from Samuel. I'm
surprised I didn't produce the problem when doing my testing though.

Fixed by reverting the bump of Flex. Someone however needs to look into
this so that we can at some point bump the Flex version.

Weird, it doesn't find the C++ compiler, even though the toolchain has
one I believe...

Weird, two timeouts in the same package, building the same file, on the
same architecture.

Weird: libevdev has a dependency on host-python specifically because it
needs argparse, which is not available on old machines that have Python
2.6. But now it fails to find the host Python. Maybe fixed by Samuel's
patch at http://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/337242/.

Mesa3D selects BR2_PACKAGE_HOST_LIBXML2_PYTHON, which should bring a

I have send two patches for this one:
http://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/337249/
http://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/337248/

I'm not confident about the second one since It is only build tested.

Ah, yes. Known issue. The kernel headers exported to userspace by the Sourcery
toolchain are completely broken. Seems like they used "cp" instead of
"make headers_install".

If we want to fix headers in an external toolchain, this issue and others like
it will get fixed.

OK, let me try to explain this better. If we have a (not too dirty) way of
running some script over the linux headers after an external toolchain has
been installed, we can "sanitize" them.

In other words, we'd be doing the "make headers_install" sed magic ourselves,
given the Sourcery people forgot about it.

Maybe adding something to toolchain-external.mk would work?
Let me do some tests to see if this works.

We can certainly do some magic in toolchain-external.mk for specific
toolchains. I just hope the magic is not too horrible :-)

I'm on it.

On the other side, I should really stop fooling around and prepare a mail
asking about these toolchain issues to the Sourcery guys. I'm sorry for being
so lazy with this!

And while we are here... upstream binutils and GCC supports Nios-II,
unfortunately, glibc and uclibc doesn't (well, uclibc supports threadless,
non shared libraries and non-MMU).

The problem with this, is that Altera is forced to move from a custom
syscall ABI to the generic syscall ABI, before upstreaming the kernel and libc
ports. So, I wouldn't count on this being upstreamed anytime soon.
