Hi all,
I am working with a sabresd platform and the following interfaces file
root@imx6qsabresd:~/# cat /etc/network/interfaces
# /etc/network/interfaces -- configuration file for ifup(8), ifdown(8)
# The loopback interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
# Wireless interfaces
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wireless_mode managed
wireless_essid any
wpa-driver wext
wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
iface atml0 inet dhcp
# Wired or wireless interfaces
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.0.30
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.1
iface eth1 inet dhcp
# Ethernet/RNDIS gadget (g_ether)
# ... or on host side, usbnet and random hwaddr
iface usb0 inet static
address 192.168.7.2
netmask 255.255.255.0
network 192.168.7.0
gateway 192.168.7.1
# Bluetooth networking
iface bnep0 inet dhcp
After boot, this is what I can see with ifconfig eth0 command:
NO static ip is set on eth0 for inet
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:04:9F:03:9F:FD
inet6 addr: fe80::204:9fff:fe03:9ffd/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:19 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:4642 (4.5 KiB)
However, if I execute:
/etc/init.d/networking restart
everything seems to work and I can connect to static ip
Any suggestion will be very appreciated.
Thank you in advance
Alvaro

it seems like /etc/init.d/networking is not executed at boot or
executed when bad timing.

scripts in /etc/init.d/ often get executed by sysV init or upstart daemon.
check /etc/rc2.d for sysV and /etc/init/ for upstart.
you may want edit your networking script to touch file in /tmp when it
get executed to see is it had been executed or not.

I experienced a similar timing problems some time ago, but with udhcpc, and I
think this presented before:
https://lists.yoctoproject.org/pipermail/poky/2011-August/006931.html
So suggestion is to try waiting when the eth0 link is UP. I think there aren't
obvious solutions to this, but there are several options you can try.
Bests,
Diego

Since you say you're new to Linux, the following might be helpful to
know in debugging your init scripts:
You can add a "set -x" to the top of your networking script to see what
it's doing and how it's evaluating the conditional logic in the script (
don't actually include the quotes ).
Add some additional echo statements in your scripts to help you figure
out what's going on. You can also do the same with other scripts in
the init.d directory.
You're probably booting up at runlevel 5 ( see inittab ). You can see
the order of your initscripts booting by looking in the /etc/rc5.d
directory. You can also play around with the ordering of initialization
by changing the prefix number of the file names ( they are symbolic
links back to the /etc/init.d directory.

I have get the same experience before.
I'm working with SABRElite made by boundary devices inc..
Sorry there may be some differences in between two environments.
There are two network services executing on SABRELite
The one service is Linux network service(/etc/init.d/networking).
The another service is connman (/etc/init.d/connman).
First, static ip was set by Linux network service.
And then, ip address override by connman service.
So, static ip was invalidated by connman.
connman required mac address for setting up the static ip.
I'd like to set ip address in simple way.
So, I removed connman service from init.d .
I will be happy if I can be of any help.
Thanks,
Hiromichi
