Hi there,

I'm encountering a kernel oops when trying to use a USB 3G modem. The
modem is an LG LDU-1900D USB key used in Morocco to access Wana's 3G
network. The modem works fine in Vista but comes with no Linux
drivers. I've seen one similar message in the list archive, but it
seems to be related to another, already corrected bug
(http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/linux/kernel/981459#981459).

Does anyone here have an idea ? Thanks to kindly keep me cc'ed, I'm
not subscribed to the list (a tad too technical for me :-)

My system: Linux jimi 2.6.29.6-217.2.3.fc11.i586 #1 SMP Wed Jul 29
15:46:46 EDT 2009 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

The USB key is a dual storage/modem system. When I plug it in at first
things seem to go ok, I get the following messages and I can mount and
access the virtual CRDOM:

Then I have to use usb_modeswitch to replace the internal storage with
the modem, accorging to this page (in French, sorry):
http://www.experts-libre.com/index.php?post/2008/12/09/Modem-EV-DO-RevA-LG-LDU-1900D

The modeswitch goes ok. However that's when I get the kernel oops:

Here's the output of lsusb -v in case it might help:

Please try a 2.6.30 kernel release, this problem has been fixed in
there.

thanks,

Hi again Greg,

can I test again a 2.6.31 kernel with Fedora 11 ? I don't find any
build in this series on koji. Or should I try to compile it on my own
? ( argh! :-( I haven't done that in a long time)

Besides is this message really only a harmless warning ? I'm unable to
have the USB modem work on linux, and I thought this was due to this
pb. However if you say this is really only a warning then I should
look for another cause.

In particular I get the following error :
> setserial /dev/ttyACM0
/dev/ttyACM0: Input/output error

and similarly ttyACM0 (or ACM1, ACM2, which are created by the USB
key) cannot be accessed with minicom, wvdial, etc. Do you have an idea
what could be the culprit here ?

Thanks a lot for your help!
Chris

I do not know anything about Fedora kernels, sorry.

It should be.

That's a different error.

That's some other problem. It would be great if you could try out the
2.6.31-rc kernel as work has gone on in this area.

thanks,

Yes indeed, in fact the error was simply due to the fact that I needed
to modprobe usbserial before rather than after the switch. So it was
totally unrelated.

Well I'm willing to do that, however I think I'll have to wait until
they compile one 2.6.31 kernel for Fedora 11, because it looks like
currently I would have to totally mess up my installation to do that.
Since the whole issue is only a warning I guess this is not too much
of a problem, unless you deem it important in which case I'm ok to try
it.

Thanks a lot for your help !

Nah, I wouldn't worry about it.

thanks,
