Unfortunately, i am still having the same disconnect problem after 2-3 minutes
of use.
I'm unsure what to try next. I can connect to the internet via my nokia n80 and
bluetooth, and the connection seems to persist for well over 5 minutes.
Any help greatfully received.

Interesting development. I just played xmoto for 14 minutes with headphones.
Generally, i've been using vlc to play movies / audio, and this is when i've
been disconnected. I am currently listening to an mp3 in totem 2.20 w/ Xine.
It's working after 4 minutes.
Perhaps vlc with audio sink is the cause of the problem?

This gets weirder. I rebooted to test some more, and using totem and vlc, i had
the headphones disconnect after 2-3 minutes as per normal.
I then played xmoto first for 5 minutes, and then tried mp3 and video in vlc and
totem. They both work... no disconnect.
Totally scratching my head.

If you'll let someone else get a word in... :)
You'll get a lot of data, but if you run this while playing audio,
near the end it might say something interesting about the disconnect:
sudo hcidump -XV >log
aplay from the console might print a decent error message.

version I get with synaptic is 3.19. I had to compile my own version to have
it working

I'm also on gutsy. I had 3.23 until about 14 hours ago, then 3.24 was pushed by
updates.
Perhaps check your repo's (local mirror's) are not outdated/not being updated?

thanks for the tip. I'm now trying to tightly define when it works or doesn't
and what steps i take. It is not working 100% of the time, but perhaps 80% of
the time. Xmoto doesn't seem to be a relevant factor.
I think ill try and map out a set of conditions over 2-3 days and see what i
come up with.
The net change does seem to be the 3.24 libs update?

@Colin Murphy : try it! sudo apt-get install xmoto.
@Paul Rushworth : Are you sure you are not running hardy? If you look at
packages.ubuntu.com, the official version for gutsy is 3.19 :
http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/admin/bluez-utils. For Hardy, it is 3.24 :

But maybe you are right and my repos are outdated. Which one do you use?

Well spotted! I am using the gutsy repo's, but also use blueman
http://blueman.tuxfamily.org/ to manage the front end of bluetooth.
They have 3.24 in their repo:

It is a motorcycle game!
I am currently trying to tightly define a working set and non working set
of conditions to troubleshoot further.
