Add a driver for Cadence DPI -> DSI bridge.

This driver only support a subset of Cadence DSI bridge capabilities.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of missing features:
 * burst mode
 * DPHY init/configuration steps
 * support for additional input interfaces (SDI input)

Hello,

This version is still missing DPHY config/init code, mainly because I
don't have a DPHY (either real or emulated) to test with. But I'm
working on a DPHY abstraction layer to help extract common DPHY
operations out of DSI drivers so that DPHY drivers can be used outside
of the DRM world (I know D-PHYs can be used with CSI which belongs in
V4L).

Regards,

Boris

This version is still missing
Changes in v5:
- Add runtime PM support

Changes in v4:
- Fix typos
- Rename clks as suggested by Tomi
- Fix DSI setup done in cdns_dsi_bridge_enable()
- Add a precision about where this bridge is supposed to used to the
  Kconfig entry
- Let DRM_CDNS_DSI select DRM_PANEL_BRIDGE
- Remove the IP version from the DT compatible name
- Adapt register the layout to match the one used in the last revision
of the IP (hopefully the final version)

Changes in v3:
- replace magic values by real timing calculation. The DPHY PLL clock
is still hardcoded since we don't have a working DPHY block yet, and
this is the piece of HW we need to dynamically configure the PLL
rate based on the display refresh rate and the resolution.
- parse DSI devices represented with the OF-graph. This is needed to
support DSI devices controlled through an external bus like I2C or
  SPI.
- use the DRM panel-bridge infrastructure to simplify the DRM panel
  logic

Changes in v2:
- rebase on v4.12-rc1 and adapt to driver to the drm_bridge API changes
- return the correct error when devm_clk_get(sysclk) fails
- add missing depends on OF and select DRM_PANEL in the Kconfig entry

DSI runtime PM

Changes in v5:
- Add optional reset line for the peripheral/APB logic

Changes in v4:
- Rename DSI clks (suggested by Tomi)
- Drop the IP version in the compatible since it can be extracted from
  a register (suggested by Andrzej)

Changes in v3:
- Fix clock names in the example
- Document how to represent DSI devices that are controller through
an external bus like I2C or SPI

Changes in v2:
- None

+Cadence DSI bridge
+==================
+
+The Cadence DSI bridge is a DPI to DSI bridge supporting up to 4 DSI lanes.
+
+Required properties:
+- compatible: should be set to "cdns, dsi".
+- reg: physical base address and length of the controller's registers.
+- interrupts: interrupt line connected to the DSI bridge.
+- clocks: DSI bridge clocks.
+- clock-names: must contain "dsi_p_clk" and "dsi_sys_clk".
+- phys: phandle link to the MIPI D-PHY controller.
+- phy-names: must contain "dphy".
+- #address-cells: must be set to 1.
+- #size-cells: must be set to 0.
+
+Optional properties:
+- resets: DSI reset lines.
+- reset-names: can contain "dsi_p_rst".
+
+Required subnodes:
+- ports: Ports as described in Documentation/devicetree/bindings/graph.txt.
+ 2 ports are available:
+ * port 0: this port is only needed if some of your DSI devices are
+ controlled through an external bus like I2C or SPI. Can have at
+ most 4 endpoints. The endpoint number is directly encoding the
+ DSI virtual channel used by this device.
+ * port 1: represents the DPI input.
+ Other ports will be added later to support the new kind of inputs.
+
+- one subnode per DSI device connected on the DSI bus. Each DSI device should
+ contain a reg property encoding its virtual channel.
+
+Example:
+
+	dsi0: dsi@fd0c0000 {
+		compatible = "cdns,dsi-1.3.1";
+		reg = <0x0 0xfd0c0000 0x0 0x1000>;

Hm, it shouldn't be enabled in the first place: the runtime resume
hook takes care of enabling it, and we don't need this clock to access
IP registers (which is all we do in the probe).

I'll fix that.

Yep, I'll fix that too.

Other than those trivial changes, are you happy with the rest of the
driver or should I wait a bit for a full review?

Looks like this delay is not needed in the end. I'll remove it.

Ah, right, you can just use pm_runtime directly to enable the IP.

I was looking at the docs, but it wasn't quite clear to me when exactly
dsi_sys_clk is needed. I take it that you can access registers with just
the dsi_p_clk, but you can't really do anything with the IP without
dsi_sys_clk? If so, I think enabling both dsi_p_clk and dsi_sys_clk in
the runtime PM callbacks is ok.

Alternatively, if dsi_sys_clk is only needed for some specific
functionality, a more correct way would be to enable that clock only
when that operation is performed.

That's my understanding.

IIUC, it's needed to clock the PPI domain, so any operation
transmitting things on the DSI bus requires the sys clock.

I think it would be good to have a list of features that are supported
and tested, and perhaps a word about the development setup you have.

One thing that slightly worries me are the DPHY and input pixel clock
rates. Now the code expects that those values match perfectly, which is
not the case in real life. So what's the accepted difference, and is
there something in the registers to program differently depending on the
diff?

Another thing is that the mode->crtc_clock is in kHz, I wonder if that
rounding can cause miscalculations in the above code.

Just had a quick chat with Simon, and it seems some of the bits I was
setting were already activating the HSYNC/VSYNC recovery mechanism:

* VID_IGNORE_MISS_VSYNC: recover the case where pixel clock runs slower
  than TX byte clk
* the engine already handles the other case (pixel clock runs faster
than TX byte clk) automatically (or maybe this is configured with the
  RECOVERY_MODE() field, I'm not sure)

Simon, don't hesitate to provide more information or correct me if I'm
wrong.

Note that the TX byte clk should be configured to match the DPI pixel
clock, which means we should refuse any config where the variation is
too big to be recovered. Anyway, we still don't have a way to configure
the PLL rate (which is driving the TX byte clk), so there's not much I
can do about that right now.

>
> Another thing is that the mode->crtc_clock is in kHz, I wonder if that

Do we really have modes exposing pixel clks not aligned on a Khz? I
know the display controller can adjust the timings, but then, the
variation caused by the Khz approx should not be that big (999Khz /
10+MHz < 1/10000), and anyway, that's what the DRM framework
manipulates...

Regards,

Boris

We could have the code to check the allowed difference in place.

Well, I think the clocks in the logical video modes are aligned, but the
actual clock from the display controller or the PHY most likely is not
aligned.

Depends on how strict the HW is about the allowed difference between the
crtc and the DSI IP. It maybe that that 1 Hz is one too many... But that
can be avoided by just making sure that the check rounds the values
properly, or maybe just reduces the allowed range by 1kHz on both ends.

So I don't think it's an issue, but it is something to keep in mind.

Not sure I understand what you mean. I can put a TODO/FIXME comment in
the code to say that, once we'll have the 'PLL generator' in place we'll
need to check that the pixel and TX byte clk are close enough, but I
don't see what code you want me to add? Right now, the check will
always succeed, because I assume the pixel and TX byte clk
match perfectly.

If that's a hard requirement, I'll do it, but I think it's pretty
useless given that I won't be able to test the logic in a real
situation.

Hm, they probably will be for standard definitions.

My point is, even the display controller can't adjust the pixel clk
rate at the sub-KHz level because mode->crtc_clock is expressed in KHz,
so why should we bother? Do you want to change the DRM API to pass the
pixel clk frequency in Hz?
