[-- Attachment #1.1: Type: text/plain, Size: 2447 bytes --]

Hello,

I have an all-in-one tablet-like PC with a builtin monitor (LVDS1) and 2nd
hotpluggable monitor (VGA1), using the intel graphics driver.

My problem in a few words: if I don't have a 2nd screen plugged in at boot,
I can't see a thing once X loads. If I have a 2nd screen plugged in at boot,
everything works more-or-less ok.

Details of unit:

   - Xorg: 1.7.6
   - Linux: 2.6.32-27-generic (and I've also tried with the very latest
2.6.38 Ubuntu Natty Narwhal kernel, same problem)
   - Ubuntu: 10.04 Lucid Lynx
   - Graphics card: Intel Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express
   Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)
   - Unit: Axiomtek GOT-5100T-830 All-in-One 10.4” SVGA TFT
Fanless Touch Panel Computer with Intel® AtomTM N270 Processor Onboard

More detail: If I have VGA1 unplugged at boot, X detects it (VGA1) as
primary for some reason, and shows a blank screen on LVDS1 (but during BIOS
load, grub, and plymouth splash, the picture shows on LVDS1 as expected. I'd
expect X to do the same, but it doesn't). When I plug in VGA1, the picture
shows up fine on there, but no pic on LVDS1 until I load up Monitor
Preferences or use xrandr. If VGA1 is plugged in during boot, then both
screens operate as expected.

I want it to boot smoothly, with no flicker, in both situations (2nd screen
plugged & unplugged), so using xrandr dynamically after X loads isn't really
an option.

   - Xorg.conf: none (I've tried various xorg.conf settings, but none help,
so it works just as badly with no config file)
   - lspci: http://pastebin.com/n6bPhupW
   - xrandr --verbose: http://pastebin.com/0gmRWARM
   - Xorg.log withOUT 2nd monitor attached:
http://pastebin.com/J9adGpjb<http://pastebin.com/pyx5y2g0>
   - Xorg.log WITH 2nd monitor attached: http://pastebin.com/wP1VEvHJ

 <http://pastebin.com/pyx5y2g0>
Can anyone help me delve further into the problem? Perhaps even help fix it?
;-)

I'd be very keen to chat with someone in person (Skype or something), if
that's appropriate -- but I'm more than happy to discuss via this list if
that's better.

Kind regards,
Bryan

Also, here's my dmesg from booting the 2.6.38 kernel, in case it's useful to
help someone find out more about the issue: http://pastebin.com/qgqd6iT4

Some more useful info here. I've tried this card in the very latest
pre-release of Ubuntu 11.04, and the problem is solved. 2 questions: 1) How
can I figure out what caused it, and what was fixed? 2) How can I get the
goodness from 11.04 into my current installation of 10.04? Upgrading isn't
really an option for me at this stage.

Can anyone help out? Much appreciated!
