But still I don't see any error or warning message trace in kernel logs, I think, I'm missing something. For kernel-janitorial purpose I sync my local repo to the linux-next tree almost everyday and once in a while I build and boot from the latest kernel from the linux-next tree. But most of the time, After syncing to the latest linux-next tree, I perform only following steps to build some staging drivers under linux-next tree: >From the top of the latest linux-next tree: # make oldconfig # make prepare # make modules_prepare # make M=drivers/staging/<some driver> The above steps work fine, except that I get some warning message. <snip> WARNING: Symbol version dump /home/amit/lkernel/Module.symvers is missing; modules will have no dependencies and modversions. <snip> So my understanding is that I've booted from version-X and the linux-next kernel version is version-Y and because of this version mismatch, I see the above WARNING message.
