* [PATCH] drm/msm: drop dbgname argument from msm_ioremap*()
@ 2021-12-08 18:01 ` Dmitry Baryshkov
0 siblings, 0 replies; 8+ messages in thread
From: Dmitry Baryshkov @ 2021-12-08 18:01 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Bjorn Andersson, Rob Clark, Sean Paul, Abhinav Kumar
Cc: Stephen Boyd, linux-arm-msm, dri-devel, David Airlie, freedreno

msm_ioremap() functions take additional argument dbgname used to output
single debug line telling IO range. Drop that extra argument, use
resource name instead.

For some history, the dbgname traces were used by an older tool that
could decode the register read/write reglog traces based on the xml
register definitions.. so the dbgname matched up to domain names in
the xml. I had hacked up the downstream fbdev(ish) driver to generate
similar traces, so I could compare sequences of programming and values
(which was kind of easier that finding my way around the downstream
code).

That said, the tooling was never updated to deal with mdp5 and later,
with various different sub-blocks having their own base addresses.
And it looks like I dropped the demsm.c tool when importing the other
freedreno tools + xml into mesa. So probably no great loss to drop
this and the reglog stuff.
