Do you really need unaligned access? Maybe you could require that
accesses be aligned?

Would UCLASS_MAILBOX be suitable here?
It's fine if you want a new uclass, just checking.
Please split out your driver into a separate patch. Adding the new
uclass should be in its own patch.

Is it possible to have common code with the other DP drivers?

Is this different from the 'enable' method?
Also note that we have a panel uclass that might be useful.

I was thinking that this is more low-level than the enable method, which also
sets display parameters. I could also use the enable method if it's alright to
disregard the panel_bpp and timing parameters.

The Logicore driver is probably more low-level than that, but I'll take a look.

From what I understand about the mailbox uclass, it's more for "one-off"
devices that need to transfer messages, while AXI is a type of bus, much like
I2C or SPI, so I think the mailbox uclass doesn't really encompass all that AXI
is about.

OK, will split them in v2.

While the DP transmitters, of course, all do similar things (e.g. they all
eventually set a lane count), the implementation details differ greatly, and I
think trying to merge them would only make things more confusing, since the
drivers tend to be pretty elaborate (looking at the exynos driver, for
example).

Yes it's fine to ignore those. I'm just trying to use existing API
calls where possible (without being silly about it!)

OK. Conceptually a panel is just a display panel, so could be of any
type, I think.

OK. Are they merged in Linux?

OK, I'll switch to that function then.

Took another look: The panel uclass is still a bit thin, but the only operation
(enable_backlight) sounds more that it's supposed to contain drivers for "real"
panels (i.e. physical display devices). The Logicore TX really just generates a
DP signal and does not display it itself (the upcoming board has no display
capability at all, actually). So it probably better fits in the display uclass.

The Linux DP drivers don't share a common code base either (grepping
"lane_count" in drivers/gpu shows different implementations of lane setting and
link training).

OK, well that is suggestive. Perhaps duplicating the code is best.

OK I see. Please be sure to mention this info in your patches.
