Yes, I'm not a big fan of the "let's bump xfsprogs" solution, while all
the build failures for xfsprogs happen only on Matt's machine:

make seems to not do the right thing with -lfoo in a target dependency when
cross compiling. So the right solution is probably to remove these
dependencies. That's what the bump does. Alternatively, we can just patch -lrt
out of xfsprogs, and -lm out of traceroute.

OK. But why is this happening only on Matt's autobuilder ? He has a
special version of make ? He is using a Ubuntu 16.04, which seems
pretty "standard" stuff, so I'm a bit surprised here.

I'll take a look. Nothing to special about it. I know the version of
make is 3.8.1 so that we can build older kernels.....

You said "make 3.81" on IRC, not "make 3.8.1". Which one is true ?
My autobuilder also has "make 3.81", and I don't think it exhibits
those build failures.

I switched back to 4.1 (U16.04 default) and the issue for both
traceroute and xfsprogs went away. Doesn't answer why but resolves
the failures....
