Hello my friends.

I made some tests to get a custom debian distro with native reiser4
support, but I haven't success yet. :(

I made 3 videos (by XVidCap without sound) with these tests.

They're available in http://www.smartsolutionfactory.com.br/reiser4

May you see them and tell me what steps I've missed?

I was able to compile the kernel sources with the reiser4 patch
(2.6.32 kernel), and I installed the generated packages
(linux-headers-*** and linux-image-***).

After reboot the VM, no problem. But after it, I've tried to copy a
folder from a reiser3 partition to a reiser4 partition, and
unfortunally it has failed. :(

I need to know what I'm doing wrong.

Any help is wellcome.

Thanks in advance.

screencasts? for what reason?

simply show output of smth like "cp -av /mnt/reiser3/folder /mnt/reiser4"
and maybe following dmesg/syslog messages, if copying triggers some oops/warning

At this moment, I mount my external harddisk as /dev/sdb (931Gb
(vendor says 1Tb)).

/dev/sdb1 has reiser3 format.
/dev/sdb2 has reiser4 format.

I formatted /dev/sdb2 with: mkfs.reiser4 -y -L Sandro_Ext_R4 -o
create=ccreg40,compress=gzip1,compressMode=ultim /dev/sdb2

When I tried to copy a folder from /dev/sdb1 (reiser3) to /dev/sdb2
(reiser4), I got the following messages:

Hmmmm.... splice.....
Looks like an old bug, which has been fixed in further reiser4
patches. Could you please use more fresh kernels? I definitely
don't have a time to backport fixups to 2.6.32..

Thanks,
Edward.

Edward, thank you very much for the quick answer. :D

I'll try again with 2.6.39 kernel.

I don't give up. I know it'll work. I just need to discover the right way. :D

Please don't send pictures to mailing list. Not everyone can see them
(some people use text based email clients) and they consume a lot of

You seem to have done the right thing.

The next thing to do is to create a program to link against those
library to figure out if it is an issue in Xen build system or your
Linux installation.

Wei.

Hi,

Two questions:
1. Any specific reason for building Xen 4.5.1? That is a quite old release.
2. Did your raisin build succeed at the end? If you want you can set it
to build 4.5 as well.

Hi
I'm working on securing access to L1 cache by locking it line by line. Is there
any way to do it? For example, a xen hypervisor has two virtual machines
accessing the L1 and L1 lines are locked for a certain time to each vm accessed
them.
Regards,

Younis

Okay I have vers=3D4, tcp working.

But I would like to have UDP, I had issues with laptop that were
asleep (hibernating) and then unable to reconnect when I restart the
laptop - sometimes because the nfs server needed a reboot etc... With
udp I don't have these problems.

So i have done some more testing.

I have enabled nfs on another server, with the same package revisions
as my primary nfs server. Say server max is original nfs the one not
working and nas is the newer one.

if I do this on nas
exportfs -o async,ro 192.168.8.0/22:/mnt/tmp

I can do this on max
mount -o vers=3D4,udp,ro,async nas:/mnt/tmp/ /mnt/tmp/

but I can't do the reverse.

I have tried rebooting max into difference kernel revisions -
currently using 2.6.34, tried 6.32 and 6.30 - all failed.

the pain is this used to work.

What I see is the same flow of packets but from max I see the outbound
ack, but it doesn't hit the wire.

which makes me sort of think this might not be he right ml :( but I
tried different kernels....

thanks
frustrated

okay, but why does the nfs-kernel on linux look like it is sending
packets (via udp), but they are not hitting the wire.

UDP transport is not supported by the NFSv4 protocol. Some servers may
allow it, but most will not.

Hi

sorry if this is a duplicate, I have been having some problem
subscribing to the ml.

I am having some problem with nfs-kernel on a debian amd64 (sid) i am
using version (1:1.2.2-1).

when I do a tcpdump on my nfs machine and do a mount -o vers=4,udp
nfs:/exports/video /exports/video/ it fails

mount -o vers=3,udp nfs:/exports/video /exports/video/
mount.nfs: mount to NFS server 'nfs:/exports/video' failed: timed out, giving up

and with tcpdump, I see the request from from the client and I see the
reply ok from the nfs machine, but it seem like the nfs packet doesn't
make it to the wire, machines on the same network doesn't see the
packet.

on the nfs server I have a bridge interface br0 => eth0 eth1 eth2 eth3 vde0

on vde0 I have attached virtualbox 3.2.4, and when I look on the vde
switch with tcpdump I don't see the reply packet.

I have done some limited testing for udp and it seems to be working,
traced dns packets

I can mount tcp, but if I user vers4 i get wierd gid uid numbers

Thanks for all the extra detail.

It looks like the array is being assembled by mdadm from the initrd,
though it might be from a regular init script, I cannot be 100%
certain.

In either case, there is no apparent attempt to include sdb at that
point.
The most likely explanation is that the mdadm.conf in question (either
in initrd or root filesystem) has an error and is not causing all the
drives to be found.

If this is true, then a normal reboot will have the same effect as the
power loss.

First I would try to re-create the initrd and see if the problem goes
away.
If it doesn't then post the mdadm.conf so we can have a look at it.

Also it might be instructive to stop the array, then
  mdadm --assemble /dev/md0 -vv

as the messages might be helpful.

This is still awefully short on real details.
 - cat /proc/mdstat often helps.
 - kernel logs might be useful here
 - exact command you use to 'for it back into the raid"

If the drive is marked as failed, that would be because an attempt to
write data to it failed. Failed drives are never automatically added
back in to arrays as that would be a crazy thing to do.

This is not an ACPI problem, it's an ALSA problem.

See the third entry ("Aspire 5720ZG, also: Aspire 7520G TV") which should
cover the Aspire 7520 and what you need to do to get the sound working on

Please note if this has always not worked, or if a previous version of Linux worked.

Please attach the dmesg and /proc/interrupt from the acpi=off boot;
and the same for the boot with no boot parameters.

Please attach a single copy of the output from acpidump,
and the output from lspci -vv.

Hi,
sorry if I follow your post but I have a problem with ACPI and I think
that the culprit is always Phoenix Bios as in your case (I have an HP
dv2500 laptop with bios F.21)...
I've read that Phoenix Bios has been planned to allow only Microsoft
systems (in particular Vista) to read ACPI data and therefore manage CPU.
Someone can confirm this?
I can't manage cpu frequency scaling which, by the way, is supported by
my cpu (C2D T7500) and in fact inside Vista works pretty well.
This is the ACPI error I get when I modprobe acpi-cpufreq:

[ 1008.017253] ACPI Error (psargs-0355): [\_PR_.CPU0._PSS] Namespace
lookup failure, AE_NOT_FOUND
[ 1008.017259] ACPI Error (psparse-0551): Method parse/execution failed
[\_PR_.CPU1._PSS] (Node ffff81007cf59de0), AE_NOT_FOUND
[ 1008.017293] ACPI Exception (processor_perflib-0234): AE_NOT_FOUND,
Evaluating _PSS [20070126]

I hope someone can clarify on this.

Make and model of laptop?
BIOS version?

dmesg output would probably also be useful.

Hello,
To simplify my question, I'm going to include an excerpt from a post
to our lug here. Would you possible have a work around for this problem? TIA

<snip>
Ok, gotta throw one out for some help.
Long story short is, I have a laptop that I just purchased for a
client, has nvidia and runs perfect with Ubuntu Gutsy except for 1
little (kinda huge) problem.
The bios that ships with most laptops lately , COMPLETELY SUCK (I
hate phoenix). There is absolutely NOTHING in the bios to help control
acpi or apic. My problem is that I have NO SOUND unless I boot with the
kernel boot option of "acpi=off", then all works perfect except I have
no battery monitoring, which on a laptop is pretty huge, if this was a
desktop, it would be no biggie (not sure if it would affect ups
monitoring). I notice that I have ERR=1 from /proc/interrupts. I have
tried all sorts of combinations of boot options, including "noapic
nolapic pnpbios=off" and I forget the rest I've tried, nothing works
except for turning off acpi completely and then no battery monitor. I've
looked into apm but can't recompile the kernel because then all the
other "restricted" packages won't work with the custom kernel and that
option is basically a pain in the ass. I feel this is probably related
to the ERR=1 from interrupts but I can't seem to clear this, it only
gets worse with other boot options I've tried.
Does anyone know how to reroute irq's or make them behave better (yes
I've tried pci=routeirq)?
Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution?
Currently my work around is 2 grub boot stanza's, one is to have sound
which runs "acpi=off" and the other is to have no sound and everything
else works (battery monitor), without the "acpi=off" option.
Any help please? TIA

Sigh. I apologize for bugging who's ever at the other end of this. I
have tried to do due diligence in reading and trying all kinds of stuff,
and I think I know what the problem is I'm having, but I'm just green
enough with this kind of low level stuff to not be for sure. I did
follow the flowchart thing.

Anyway, I've got this 1U Intel board with a 1.7 P4 on it. To do burn in
testing the hardware guys want to be able to do temperature sensing.
They're all tickled that some app in XP can do it. And I just am not
having any luck getting it to work under Linux on this machine.

I have Libranet 2.7 installed (kernel 2.4.19). I have the lm-sensors
debian package installed. When I do a sensors-detect, it probes
i2c-i801, but modprobe can't locate it. Where would I get this? Can I
get it as a binary? Maybe I need to load the i2c-source package and look
to compile it from there.

The Intel board rep sent us this info about the temperature controller:

"The Intel(R) S845WD1-E server board uses a Heceta 6 management
controller to monitor thermal zones, fan speeds and voltages. The Heceta
6 management controller is a separate controller mounted on the server
board."

I've looked all over the lm-sensors web site, but it is not clear to me
whether there is support for the Heceta 6.

Any help/hints/tips/suggestions would be very much appreciated. TIA.

21 line signature. World record IMHO. You'd better fix that first if you
ever intend to receive help from anyone. Signatures should not exceed
*4* lines.

Thanks.

hotplug executes all scripts as root and with minimal environment.
it does not have access to your x-server and thus cannot open any
windows on your desktop (there may be even multiple users logged in,
how should it know where it should display its windows)

you need a program that listens for hotplug events and starts
openoffice when you insert your usb drive.
when you start that program from your x session, it has access to
your display and thus can open windows.
look at gnome-volume-manager. it does exactly that.

Hi,

I wonder if someone can help me.
I made a little script

#!/bin/bash

killall soffice.bin
/opt/Openoffice.org/program/soffice.bin /media/sdb/text.sxi

When I start the script ./usb-storage.sh it’s running properly.

My problem is, where I have to tell the hotplug service that it should
start my script.
Simply to call the script “usb-storage” and copy it under
////etc/hotplug/usb// with 777 doesn’t do it(I tried).

I just don’t get it how this is functioning(I already had to install my
system three times cause I destroyed the hotplug scripts trying).

Does anyone have an Idea?

Thank You

Dalibor Malek

I'm newer to htis group.

whether the explanation for below mentioned rule is correct?
the forward chain will reject the packet with mac address
00:01:23:45:67:89 whose source ip is not eqaul to 192.168.1.2

iptables -A FORWARD -m mac --mac-source 00:01:23:45:67:89 ! -s

Hello,
I'm using iptables and i framed rules for
firewall(Ingress,egress,forward)..
It is working finely.
But i want to frame the rules which should be time based one.
(i.e) the rule should be valid for one hour, two hour like that...
pls say the command and way for implementation.

expecting the help,
from karthikeyan..
