If alignment > MAX_WRITE_ZEROES_BOUNCE_BUFFER (however unlikely) we
have the same problem, so maybe this would be better?

max_transfer = alignment > 0 ? alignment : MAX_WRITE_ZEROES_BOUNCE_BUFFER
