I'm trying to boot a recent oe-core+meta-oe+meta-angstrom+meta-ti on a
pandaboard. With 3.4, I get the attached. With 3.1, I get the below:

Environment size: 686/131068 bytes
Panda # boot
reading boot.scr

** Unable to read "boot.scr" from mmc 0:1 **
reading uImage

4175588 bytes read

Uncompressing Linux... done, booting the kernel.

(nothing more)

What is the suggested path to get a pandaboard booting?

Thanks,
Cliff

From the boot log you attached it seems that the kernel hanged far
before the login prompt.

I can send you an uImage i'm using with a similar setup to test, the
only difference i can see is that i have a pandabord ES.

Yes, I'd be interested in trying your kernel.

I tried the validation image from pandaboard.org, and that seems to boot fine.

Thanks,
Cliff

mainline linux kernel + a few config tweaks now boots my systemd image
just fine.

I have a non-ES rev EA1 board, so not sure if there is anything
different about it ...

Now, trying to sort the kernel params required to get the display working ...

Thanks,

Can you please share how to build mainline kernel in yocto. I try
build meta-ti pandaboard kernel
but there was an issue with fetching git kernel tree.

Currently, I'm building test kernels outside OE, so I just use the
toolchain from OE (can be set up with something like
https://github.com/cbrake/oe-build-core/blob/master/envsetup.sh), and
then my kernel defconfig changes can be found here:

https://github.com/cbrake/linux/tree/2012-11-19_pandaboard

Enrico sent me a uImage which I tried and it does the same thing:

....
[ 0.000000] OMAP4430 ES2.0
....
[    2.950775] asoc: omap-hdmi-hifi <-> omap-hdmi-audio-dai mapping ok
[ 2.958465] u32 classifier
[ 2.961364] Actions configured
[ 2.965332] TCP: cubic registered
[ 2.969390] NET: Registered protocol family 10
[ 2.974975] NET: Registered protocol family 17
[ 2.979858] lib80211: common routines for IEEE802.11 drivers
[ 2.986053] Registering the dns_resolver key type
[ 2.991271] VFP support v0.3: implementor 41 architecture 3 part 30
variant 9 rev 1
[ 2.999572] ThumbEE CPU extension supported.
[ 3.004211] Registering SWP/SWPB emulation handler

(stops here)

As mentioned before, mainline kernels boot fine on this board, so it
appears the meta-ti kernel has problems with at least some non-ES
Panda boards.

Enrico, can you send me a complete boot log from your system? Perhaps
if I can see which drivers are being initialized after the above
message, then we can more easily narrow it down.

Also, do you have the display working on your system? If so, did you
have to add any special kernel command line args to select the display
format, etc?

Thanks,
Cliff

sorry to jump in late... and I just noticed that you are using ES2.0
revision of 4430 (I didn't notice that so far).

i can confirm that we have problems on old ES for 4430, in fact that kernel
seems to be working on ES2.2+.

we don't have the root cause for that, so anything that you can find would
certainly be helpful.

I believe Cliff previously mentioned he had EA1 board, which was the first
batch of Early Adopter board, i.e. pre-production boards, that were given to
select people. Could that be the problem? And as Nicolas mentions, there are
some known issues with ES2.0 silicon. I'm wondering if there's any way to
replace it...

Attached a boot log with hdmi monitor connected, as you can see i use
no kernel args for display but i get a working 1080p console (i didn't
test X).

Without intending to capture this thread:

I just experience the same on my TI AM 3730 board when I moved the
poky-denzil layer to the poky-danny layer and moved meta-ti to latest
(HEAD). I redid the whole build from scratch, and experienced the same
problem.
My kernel recipe is outside of meta-ti, so either I am picking up a faulty
toolchain for ARM, or I am including something from meta-ti that changed.

Might be unrelated to your problem.

Regards,

Leon.

It cannot be the same, since we were discussing a problem with Cliff's
pandaboard, which is omap4.

Are you saying you use your own kernel? Have you tried one of the kernels from
meta-ti?
