@All,

I just read about a
  "send/receive feature in Kernel-3.6 for btrfs which can be used by backup solutions to determine the difference between snapshots"

http://www.h-online.com/open/news/item/First-release-candidate-of-Linux-kernel-version-3-6-1659576.html

This is a very efficient interface for backup tools, especially for large Cluster File Systems!
Can we put it on the feature list for Ceph-FS ?

Best Regards,
-Dieter

While send/receive functionality in some form will be important, I
don't think we want to work on it until we have a plan for backups in
the first place -- using the filesystem client for backups is probably
the wrong interface for a Ceph cluster. :)
This topic is definitely coming up on the roadmap, though. I think
backups and cluster sync are next in line for the OSDs after PG
splitting (and merging?) is done.
