Hi, maintainers

I made tests on ubuntu 13.10. I followed these steps.
From the following logs, we can see 802.11a is not supported in channel
list.
I want to know whether 802.11a supports this or not? Or 802.11a is not
used in this?
Chip is 6205. lspci -vvv is as below.

Thanks a lot.
Zhu Yanjun

1. installed ubuntu 13.10 client

Hi, maintainers

The kernel version:

uname -a
Linux wind-desktop 3.13.0-test-iwlwifi #1 SMP Mon Jan 20 18:54:22 CST
2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Any reply is appreciated.

Channel 2 is in the 2.4ghz band (B/G) not 5ghz (A)

Channel 104 is a DFS channel which is not allowed in country US.
Please use a non-DFS channel like 36/40/149 and then try (or)
change the country_code which has 104 allowed :-).

You can also use "iw reg get" to get list of bands allowed, all the bands
marked with passive-scan are not allowed in AP mode unless we implement
full DFS functionality (CAC) and make the channel usable.

Also use a separate thread, dont post in other threads.

Thanks for your mail, but very pity, after checking, it doesn't as well. May you test it on your board?

Can you use "hostapd -dd -B /etc/hostapd.conf"and send the output?
Also "hostapd -v" and "iw phy" as well.

Yeah, maybe the hardware can support 802.11a, but the driver does not
support 802.11a?

All the 5GHz channels are either disabled (or) passive-scan, so AP operation
will not work. (from iw phy)

Why don't you try with hostapd from git (1.0 is old)? It has changes to
handle regulatory and channel list update properly.

Please show me the command...:)

No it doesn't work that way, based on regulatory info and HW capability
the framework will decide that.

Lets give it a try with latest hostapd from git and see.

Well in Us channel 149/36 is a valid channel for AP operation. So ideally
it should work? Is there any specific feature blocking such in iwlwifi?

can you try building iwlwifi with CONFIG_IWLWIFI_DEBUG from make menuconfig?
It prints out the reg rules it read from eeprom? Also please post the
full dmesg.

Also please post the
full dmesg.

cool - just send a patch to fix iwconfig, but this tool is ancient and
I doubt anybody even cares.

Hi All,

Prerequisite:

iw list

If there is 'AP' in the list of "Supported interface modes" your device will support the Access Point mode with hostapd.

Second if the interface is supporting 2.4 GHz then you cannot get the support for 802.11a which supports 5 GHz.
Change the hw_mode=a to hw_mode=g

To configure AP:.....
Bring the interface down
Set the interface to master mode

#ifconfig wlan0 down
#iw dev wlan0 set type managed
#ifconfig wlan0 up
# hostapd -B /tmp/hostapd.conf -dd

It worked for me, I was able to connect to this AP.

If the interface support dual band, then you need to set the freq to 5Ghz of the interface.

Hi All,

If you change the frequency of the interface it should work

root@moon-ubuntu:~# ifconfig wlan0 down
root@moon-ubuntu:~# iw dev wlan0 set freq 5180 HT20
root@moon-ubuntu:~# iwconfig wlan0
wlan0     IEEE 802.11abgn  ESSID:off/any
          Mode:Managed  Frequency:5.18 GHz  Access Point: Not-Associated
          Tx-Power=27 dBm
          Retry  long limit:7   RTS thr:off   Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:on
root@moon-ubuntu:~# ifconfig wlan0 up

Now I modified the hostapd.conf

hw_mode=a
channel=36

It worked for me.
