            Bug ID: 95520
Summary: Error when recovering from suspend mode: fifo: ce0
                    engine fault on channel 0
           Product: xorg
           Version: unspecified
          Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
                OS: Linux (All)
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: medium
         Component: Driver/nouveau

Kernel log

Environment:
 - Linux kernel 4.5.4
 - Desktop environment: Gnome 3.20.2
 - Xorg 1.18.3
 - Graphics card: NVIDIA Corporation GK107GLM [Quadro K1000M] (rev a1)

Nouveau makes Xorg unresponsive after resuming from suspend to RAM. Restarting
Xorg did not help, but a reboot.

Error messages look like:
nouveau 0000:01:00.0: fifo: read fault at 0000dc8000 engine 15 [CE0] client 01
[CE0] reason 02 [PTE] on channel 0 [007fd56000 DRM]
nouveau 0000:01:00.0: fifo: ce0 engine fault on channel 0, recovering...

It must be a regression, because the issue did not happen with the same
hardware on kernel 4.4.x.

--- Comment #1 from Jack Massey <jacknmassey-Re5JQEeQqe8AvxtiuMwx3w@public.gmane.org> ---
I am also having this issue.

Environment:
  - Linux kernel 4.4.0-22
  - Desktop encironment: Gnome 3.18.4
  - Xorg 1.18.3
  - Graphics card: NVIDIA Corporation GF119 [NVS 310]

I get a very similar crash error:

Jun 6 08:36:05 jackspc kernel: [235092.854673] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: disp:
outp 00:0006:0342: link training failed

Jun 6 08:36:26 jackspc kernel: [235113.279520] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: fifo: ce0
engine fault on channel 0, recovering...

Note that this crash happened immediately after unlocking the screen *not* when
waking from sleep, and I am using a 4.4.x Ubuntu kernel.

This issue started happening after I upgraded my Monitors on Friday. I went
from 3x1080p to 2x1440p. Is it possible that the number of pixels / type of
monitor has an effect?

ps -el output

Linux kernel 4.7.5
desktop kde plasma 5
xorg-x11-server 7.6
libdrm_nouveau2 2.4.70
xf86-video-nouveau 1.0.13

System was coming out of suspend, and I typed in my password to the unlock
screen. The mouse would move but the system locked up. I couldn't switch to
another virtual terminal.

I remote logged in but I couldn't exit several processes including Xorg.
Many processes were waiting on 'SyS_po' or 'SyS_ep'.
I don't know if the nouveau fifo read fault error is valid as it does often.

I'm having a similar situation like Géza Búz, the two external DisplayPort
connected Displays get a signal, but only the frozen cursor on black background
is visible. No further interaction is possible, no shell switching,
ctrl-alt-delete etc. Unfortunately, this is not reproducible every time I
suspend the system.
On reboot, the system hangs in a state after kernel selection/grub, where the
fan runs high but no output is shown on any screen, the system is frozen.
Only after several reboot attempts (~3) the boot runs normally again.

(a recent memtest did not report errors)
