Changes Since last time
- Now that 225 is out upgrade recipe to 225, changes between 224 and 225 are minor
but fixes in networkd are important
- Implement systemd-sysv-install for OE
- Enable getopt in busybox needed for systemd-sysv-install
- Remove update-rc.d from default uninstall list in rootfs creation
- Tested date and systemd unit tests manually to pass
- Booted core-image-cmdline-full on all qemu targets

Khem Raj (4):
  busybox: Enable getopt applet
  rootfs: Do not uninstall update-rc.d
  systemd: Upgrade 219 -> 225
  systemd: Implement OE-Specific systemd-sysv-install

update-rc.d is now needed by systemd to interact with sysv
scripts, so if we have a mixed system, then we can not uninstall
update-rc.d as it is going to break systemd functionality

Drop gtkdoc dependency since libudev API documentation has been converted from gtkdoc into man pages
Remove packaging gudev as it has moved to separate repository outside
systemd

For more details see
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commit/2375607039517c88df51ef16ddbb624ec1c10654

package newly added script for xorg to be usable with systemd --user
intance

machinectl now has shell support

private-zone DHCP options are supported by systemd-networkd

For complete differences between two releases run

-Date: Wed, 4 Mar 2015 18:32:40 -0800
-Subject: [PATCH] tmpfiles.c: Honor ordering within files as the docs say.
-
-Previously, globs would always get processed first followed by any other
-items in arbitrary order. This is contrary to the documentation which
-states "Otherwise, the files/directories are processed in the order they
-are listed."
-
-To fix this, remove the separate "globs" hashmap, and instead use only one
-marking each entry as a glob or not. There should be little overhead
-from doing this, considering the only time nested processing will occur
-is for processing of globs which are not of type "X".

Support for chkconfig (--enable-chkconfig) was removed in favour of
calling an abstraction /lib/systemd/systemd-sysv-install. This
needs to be implemented for OE.

The date test failed in two of the sanity runs with this series
applied :(

The description above implies that you will only uninstall update-rc.d
if systemd is present, but that doesn't seem to be what the patch does.

Also, if the rootfs is read-only then you might as well go ahead and
uninstall it irrespective of systemd because it isn't going to work. If
systemd will fail catastrophically in this situation then I guess it
should be an error to have both systemd and sysv scripts in a read-only
filesystem.

I think this testcase needs revisiting. My manual runs of sequence of exact same commands on qemux86-64 and qemuarm64 succeeds all the time. I have built core-image-full-cmdline
One thing I wonder is if in AB case there might network time is configured and systemd-timesyncd/systemd-timedated syncs it back
immediately when its tempered with. I see this happening with systemd-219 as well when I have networkd and timesyncd started on another instance running on minnow ( without the proposed patchset)

and for systemd we should try to test timedatectl to manipulate date instead of date cmd e.g. timedatectl set-time “YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS”

I will try to reproduce it on my end and see if I can get something to whats going on.

A "bitbake core-image-sato -c testimage" replicated it here FWIW, have
you tried testimage to see if that somehow makes a difference? Shoudn't
be hard to test with that and for sato, it should run pretty quickly.

It all works with 219, its only the upgrade patches that seem to break
things :(

Cheers,

Richard

yeah my machine is w/o X and moreover I don’t have sudo on it test image seems to need X
I will try to build core-image-sato and try to reproduce it locally. in order to analyze
systemd defect it needs to be reproducible outside testimage infra anyway.

I believe the tests will run with the nographic options to qemu which
then won't need X, Ross had a patch around for that recently. To be
honest when looking at this kind of issue, I usually debug it using
testimage now, its actually easier in many cases...

Cheers,

Richard

in this case it will be faster. Care to point to Ross’s patch ?

I meant to not say its only for systemd. but that systemd now needs it.
so update-rc.d is no longer forcefully removed from image depchain.

That is valid problem, but its not changing that behavior. Code needs to be
added to check for ro-rootfs check and then uninstall it. In ro-rootfs case this
disable/enable of script might still be needed and useful since there might overlayfs in use

Well, right. But wouldn't it be better only to leave it in there if
it's actually necessary, i.e. if you have systemd and you also have sysv
scripts and the rootfs isn't read-only? As it stands, your patch will
cause update-rc.d to be left around for people who aren't using systemd,
which seems like a retrograde step.

makes sense. I can improvise on it and check for all constraints in a follow up.

is the patch to run the tests in a nographics qemu. The framework still
checks that DISPLAY is set, but you can just set that to anything you want
as it won't be used.

I am able to reproduce this now and also analyse it. Its a timing
issue and original testcase needs to be changed.
The root cause is that we have systemd-timesyncd started automatically on boot
( we always had) so when we changed the date and asked for the date
immediately we got it before timesyncd came around
and readjusted it to network time.

happens with

SSH="ssh root@192.168.7.2"
$SSH 'date +"%Y-%m-%d %T"'
$SSH 'date -s "2016-08-09 10:00:00"'
$SSH 'date -R'

Fixed with

SSH="ssh root@192.168.7.2"
$SSH 'systemctl stop systemd-timesyncd'
$SSH 'date +"%Y-%m-%d %T"'
$SSH 'date -s "2016-08-09 10:00:00"'
$SSH 'date -R'
$SSH 'systemctl start systemd-timesyncd'

this patch fixed it during autoruns, but date test is common for
sysvint and systemd it ignores the outputs of systemctl cmds
so in theory it will work on both sysvinit and systemd. Although its not elegant

yeah, ideally the check should be removed now that it becomes useless
with this patch. May be you want to improve above mentioned patch to
account for that as well.

I have updates this patch in pull branch

Thanks for looking at this, I've rewritten this to use setup/teardown
methods and check that systemd is being used and will send the patch
shortly.

Very good, how am I meant to deal with this though? You never published
a pull url in your original pull request and I can't figure out how to
get a patch file out the github web UI. I guess I can fetch the branch
somewhere, then extract it, but if everyone does this its going to be
rather annoying for me :(.

I really wish people would just post the v2 on the list.

Incidentally, the wrong version of this has gotten merged, I'll likely
revert it then apply this.

Cheers,

Richard

Its was an update to usual pull request branch that I have published earlier and then notified to the thread
some of us have been doing it for long.

I have used create-pull-request script to generate the pull request, it is not supposed to work with github ?
looking at the original mail I see the url is really not there. I will see why its happening and if its a pilot error.

From github you can append a .patch or .diff to the commit link and obtain a patch too e.g. above would be

https://github.com/kraj/openembedded-core/commit/c4c574dff9ef689c7694a6055907083e7a018d48.patch

There is no need to revert it. I have pushed a rebased patch to the original so you can pull that.
