Richard,

5.10 dropped this morning, so I'm switching over to the libc-headers
and reference kernel upgrade (5.4 and 5.10 will be in master, with
5.8 being dropped).

But since that will take a bit to sort out, I wanted to send my queue
of patches for other fixes/versions.

I didn't pick up any issues with local testing, so hopefully this won't
cause any problems.

I have the lttng-modules patch from a previous send repeated here, since
it may be easier to take it as part of the bulk update. I checked
just a few minutes ago, and there isn't a new tagged version of the
modules yet, so we still need the backported patches for 5.10+ builds.

Cheers,

Bruce

Integrating the following commits:

1aa9046 merge_config.sh: Translate some env variables to make variables
  6fdcd64 symbol_why: allow re-classification from non-hardare to hardware

With these, a non-gcc compiler can be used, since the invocation of the
kernel configuration explicitly passes the variables as command line
vars, versus environment variables. This means the kernel Makefile
assignments are overriden and the desired compiler used.

With option re-classification, we can inhibit warnings when an option
has incorrectly been classified has 'hardware', and hence triggers a
visible warning.

Integrating the following commit(s):

    qemuarm64-gfx.cfg: add CONFIG_INPUT_UINPUT

This will address libinput ptest failures:
    https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/input/uinput.html
    https://wayland.freedesktop.org/libinput/doc/latest/test-suite.html

    qemux86_64 already has it enabled.

From: Bruce Ashfield <bruce.ashfield@gmail.com>

lttng-modules doesn't currently build against the lastest 5.10-rc
versions.

Upstream lttng does have fixes for the issues, but hasn't done a
release that contains them yet. There are other patches on the
2.12.x branch, but I've skipped them for now as they aren't
necessary for 5.10 builds, and can be picked up with the next
full update.

We also bump the dev-upstream hash to make them easier to pickup
for those building from git.

+Subject: [PATCH 10/19] fix: ext4: fast commit recovery path (v5.10)
+
+See upstream commit :
+
+ commit 8016e29f4362e285f0f7e38fadc61a5b7bdfdfa2
+ Author: Harshad Shirwadkar <harshadshirwadkar@gmail.com>

+
+ ext4: fast commit recovery path
+
+ This patch adds fast commit recovery path support for Ext4 file
+ system. We add several helper functions that are similar in spirit to
+ e2fsprogs journal recovery path handlers. Example of such functions
+ include - a simple block allocator, idempotent block bitmap update
+ function etc. Using these routines and the fast commit log in the fast
+ commit area, the recovery path (ext4_fc_replay()) performs fast commit
+ log recovery.

+
+See upstream commit :

+
+ kvm: x86/mmu: Add TDP MMU PF handler
+
+ Add functions to handle page faults in the TDP MMU. These page faults
+ are currently handled in much the same way as the x86 shadow paging
+ based MMU, however the ordering of some operations is slightly
+ different. Future patches will add eager NX splitting, a fast page fault
+ handler, and parallel page faults.
+
+ Tested by running kvm-unit-tests and KVM selftests on an Intel Haswell
+ machine. This series introduced no new failures.

+

+
+    tracepoint: Optimize using static_call()
+
+ Currently the tracepoint site will iterate a vector and issue indirect
+ calls to however many handlers are registered (ie. the vector is
+ long).
+
+ Using static_call() it is possible to optimize this for the common
+ case of only having a single handler registered. In this case the
+ static_call() can directly call this handler. Otherwise, if the vector
+ is longer than 1, call a function that iterates the whole vector like
+ the current code.

I was able to merge part of the series but there were some warnings
that came up:

meta-intel:
https://autobuilder.yoctoproject.org/typhoon/#/builders/100/builds/1020
poky-tiny:
https://autobuilder.yoctoproject.org/typhoon/#/builders/15/builds/3105

so I've deferred the kernel tooling bit until we can figure these out.
That means several other patches which depended on that also couldn't
make it in.

Cheers,

Richard

Nothing else should have depended on the kern-tools ones, it is independent
of the rest. Either way, I'll submit next week!

The others don't rebase cleanly without it and I wasn't sure if
resolving the rejects was going to be a good or a bad idea so I replied
on list and asked :)

Its probably easier for us both if I wait but I can rebase if it makes
sense.

Cheers,

Richard

Let just wait, I have more 5.4-stable updates and some other fixes
(systemtap), that I can submit as a new series.

I think this would need:

https://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/yocto-kernel-cache/commit/features/firmware?id=1bde5ac3c3b324853958c24513a6a949d09138bc

to be included in v5.4 branch as well. But I am wondering why is it
being flagged now. I can't figure out what has changed ...

Thanks,

Anuj

I have a pull request ready that fixes the warning for all the
branches, I'll send it on Monday.

> being flagged now. I can't figure out what has changed ...

It's a kern-tools update. Options that were both "hardware" and
"non-hardware" weren't being properly warned. I fixed it to warn in
that case, and these popped out.
