Hi,

I am trying to get powernowd running on my Athlon 64 3200+ on a
Shuttle SN85G4 (the motherboard in that barebone system is called
FN85 FWIW) which uses an nForce 3 chipset.

I am running 2.6.3-rc3 (built on Debian unstable) at the moment, and
I built powernow-k8 as a module. When modprobing it, I get:

powernow-k8: Found AMD64 processor supporting PowerNow (version 1.00.08a)
powernow-k8: voltage stable in 100 usec, ramp voltage offset: 2, isochronous relief time: 3, maximum voltage step: 0
powernow-k8: pll lock time: 0x2, maxfid 0xc (2000 MHz), maxvid 0x0
powernow-k8: fid 0 invalid : 0x0

Everything under /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/ is empty.

The relevant part of my .config is:

#
# CPU Frequency scaling
#
CONFIG_CPU_FREQ=y
CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_PROC_INTF=m
# CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_DEFAULT_GOV_PERFORMANCE is not set
CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_DEFAULT_GOV_USERSPACE=y

FWIW, here is the lspci output:

Does anybody have suggestions for me to try? Should I try a newer
kernel?

Thanks in advance,

Same with 2.6.3 proper :/

I also get

apm: BIOS version 1.2 Flags 0x07 (Driver version 1.16ac)
apm: overridden by ACPI.

Maybe ACPI is somehow disturbing it?

Cheers,
  Colin

In theory no, but you may consider ACPI especially on amd64
architectures.

Thanks for your answer. I now built a kernel without ACPI support,
alas, nothing has changed. :/ I'll probably have to wait and try
again from time to time.

Cheers,
  Colin

Ahem, I guess my english is not good enough, sorry. I meant that you
should always compile with ACPI, not APM because I doubt that APM nor
PnP-BIOS and so on is well tested by bios writters for amd64.

Oh, understandable.

About my problem, I got answer from Paul saying that powernow-k8 was
known to be broken in 2.6.3 and that I should use the files from
2.6.2, and that worked perfectly. And just now, I see the patches
for 2.6.3 too.

Thanks for your help,
  Colin
