Hi,
         I am using Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope with the latest alsa-driver
snapshot provided by Takashi. The sound system does not work without a
hda-verb command manually executed every time the system starts up. The
command I execute is:

hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x15 SET_EAPD_BTLENABLE 2

If I do this I get audio out. But my internal mic does not work and nor does
jack sensing. When I insert a device into the headphone jack the speakers do
not get muted and there is also no sound from the headphones themselves.
Even an external mic/line-in device does not work. I have attached the
output of alsa-info.sh here.. Please go through it and try to solve the
problem.

Hi,
         I am using Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope with the latest alsa-driver
snapshot provided by Takashi. The sound system does not work without a
hda-verb command manually executed every time the system starts up. The
command I execute is:

hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x15 SET_EAPD_BTLENABLE 2

If I do this I get audio out. But my internal mic does not work and nor does
jack sensing. When I insert a device into the headphone jack the speakers do
not get muted and there is also no sound from the headphones themselves.
Even an external mic/line-in device does not work. I have attached the
output of alsa-info.sh here.. Please go through it and try to solve the
problem.

No progress... Same status as before even after adding model. Note that when
the headphone switch is toggled in the audio mixer (like kmix), the internal
subwoofer turns on and off.. perhaps its a mapping problem?

Yeah I added these 2 lines to the end of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=acer-aspire-4930g

This is enough to pass the model option to the driver right?
I will post the alsa-info.sh output after I get back home from work.

Usually yes.  Check /sys/modules/snd_hda_intel/parameters/model.
Also, some relevant kernel message should appear if the model is
selected.

acer-aspire-4930g,<NULL>,<NULL>,<NULL>,<NULL>,<NULL>,<NULL>,<NULL>

Now the volume has dropped further. The subwoofer is not enabled. There is
even no headphone jack toggle available in the mixer. Mic (internal and
external) as well as headphones dont work.

The only line about the audio from dmesg is:

[   39.421278] hda-intel: IRQ timing workaround is activated for card #0.
Suggest a bigger bdl_pos_adj.

Because you compiled your own drivers from the snapshot, you should pass the
appropriate --with-debug= to ./configure.

I recommend to turn at least CONFIG_SND_DEBUG on.
CONFIG_SND_DEBUG_VERBOSE would be too much, but CONFIG_SND_DEBUG is
just for basic information.
Also CONFIG_SND_DEBUG_XRUN would be good to have.  It alone won't do
any harm unless you turn on the feature via proc file.
