Hi,

I recently bought a HP Elitebook 2540p, which is arrandale based and
features a displayport connector (VGA as well).
Because quality over VGA is quite bad with my Asus VW266H monitor
(1920x1200; vga, hdmi, dvi) I bought a displayport<-->hdmi cable so I
could use the digital output.

However, although RANDR seems to report something when connected (in
xfce's display dialog I get "LGD 12'' (internal)" and "HDMI 2", the
monitor always reports "HDMI no signal".

Any idea howto diagnose this problem further?
I am running Fedora 16 + latest updates (Linux 3.4, intel git).

Thank you in advance, Clemens

Any suggestions how to diagnose this problem further?

I really hope I won't need to use VGA forever - the blurry fonts make
my eyes bleed ;)

Do please open a bug on fd.o so that we can at least keep reminding
ourselves of the issue. Unfortunately it sounds like yet another example
where DP->dongle is broken.

Attaching a drm.debug=0x6 dmesg and being prepared to run random kernel
trees is a minimum.

Yeah, just be aware that DP to HDMI/DVI isn't really a 'dongle' in the
usual sense, the whole internal hardware is running in HDMI mode, just
sending the data over the DP wires. The cable then just converts the
signal levels.

So, our driver sees a regular HDMI output, which is vastly simpler than
the DP to VGA dongles which look like DP to the computer and VGA to the
monitor.

I've tried a bunch of monitors using this mode and it's always worked
just fine; you might try a different cable, or test with a different
monitor if you can find one.
