Hi, all,
This is KVM test result against kvm.git: e6a9246aa397aaced11f3870bfd0766ab48075c4 and qemu-kvm.git: 94f964d08ebdcc74999d4cff74bc5f7aee84fc5.

We found a regression issue that linux guest is very slow to boot up(about 20 minutes). and I checked with a old kvm commit 61e45fb2806b3615ede47013c06fa2e95192e660 and new qemu-kvm, the linux guest boot fine.

Fixed issues:
1. [KVM VT-d] Guest fail to boot up with one additional device assignment
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16437
2. 32PAE Windows guest is slow to boot with acpi on shadow

I'll take a look. What kernel is running in the guest? What distribution?

I have a truly marvellous patch that fixes the bug which this
signature is too narrow to contain.

Guest run on RHEL5u3 with it's default kernel 2.6.18.

Unable to reproduce - R5u3 i386 guest installed and booted, x86_64
booted from cd, all as expected.

Do you use EPT or shadow mode? This issue only exist on shadow mode.
But if we assign one pci device to guest, both EPT and shadow mode can reproduce.

Shadow. What's your command line?

I never assigned a pci device in my life...

Avi, I assumed your platform has no EPT hardware feature, right?
I tried sevral platforms, if I used no EPT suported machine, everything is OK as yours; if I used EPT supported machine, and then disable EPT with "modprobe kvm_intel ept=0", then issue happen.

Thanks,
Xudong

Correct.

That's what I thought - probably vpid+shadow interaction. I'll test it out.

I usually test on an old machine since shadow is much more stressful
than ept. But shadow+vpid is even more stressful, I'll move my testing
there.

BTW: the bad commit is: c94c3ba901f87115cf574044e7faabfb1d0251fb "KVM: Don't
save/restore MSR_IA32_PERF_STATUS", but I haven't figured out the reason yet.

It's incredibly slow. Did we disable the cpu cache somehow? Maybe
through the page tables?

Patch posted - qemu didn't reset PAT correctly, but this worked before
c94c3ba90 since setting MSR_IA32_PERF_STATUS failed (and qemu didn't
check the error code).
