This is problematic if cnt == 0 (I understand that existing code further above
has the same problem, so it would be ok to fix both with a separate patch).

I must admit that I am not too happy about this code, since it moves code
which should be in the case statement with code running afterwards.
A helper function to do the actual read would be a bit nicer

	case hwmon_temp_max:
		ret = nct7904_read_limit(data, channel, LTD_HV_HL_REG,
					 TEMP_CH1_W_REG, DTS_T_CPU1_W_REG);
		if (ret < 0)
			return ret;
		*val = ret * 1000;
		return 0;
	...

I undersatand that is a bit of additional code, but it would be much
cleaner. I'll accept the current code, though, if you disagree.

This is odd: It silently accepts values <= 0, but doesn't do anything.
Is that really what you want ? Why not something like:

		if (val <= 0)
			val = 1;

> +
> +		val = clamp_val((1350000 + (val >> 1)) / val, 1, 0x1fff);

It took me a while to understand the calculation above. Something like
		val = clamp_val(DIV_ROUND_CLOSEST(1350000, val), 1, 0x1fff);
might be a bit easier to understand.
