i'm trying to convert my old mandrake 6.0 system to lvm, using a
2.4.0test kernel, lvm-0.8final and devfs, and i'm having a hard time
getting my rc scripts to work. on bootup, vgscan fails to find the vg
for no reason i can think of.
i'm working around this with the kludge of vgexport on shutdown and
vgimport on bootup, which works, but just doesn't seem right. i've got a
32KB debug output file of vgscan failing; what would be the best way of
submitting it to whom?

done; still doesn't work. new tarfile of vgscan's and vgchange's stdout
and stderr attached.

Could you delete line 103 containing "continue;" in vgscan.c, recompile/install
and retry please?

yes; i'm sorry, this was a side effect of my working around the problem
with vgexport / vgimport.
i shut down without exporting the vg, only deactivating it, and
restarted again with the following commands in rc.sysinit:
/sbin/vgscan -v -d > /root/vgscan.1 2> /root/vgscan.2
/sbin/vgchange -v -d -a y > /root/vgchange.1 2> /root/vgchange.2
this failed to come up, so i then had to restart again with my usual
vgexport / import, but at least i think i've got good logfiles this
time. since they became longish, i've tarred and gzipped them and
attached the tarfile to this email; i hope the mailing list software
doesn't dislike mime attachments. :-/

<SNIP vgscan utput>
The output shows, that the Volume Group is exported.
Have you tried to import it again with for eg. "vgimport vg /dev/hda11"?
