Could you provide "pvdisplay /dev/hda2" and "fdisk -l /dev/hda" please?
It is likely caused by the math:
1 GB = 2^30 Byte

Louis,
since Friday you should better get LVM 1.0.1-rc1 from www.sistina.com,
which *directly* supports the old and new metadata formats and avoids running
an explicit upgrade program.

Looks like you didn't start with a vanilla kernel patching it conforming
to the instructions in the PATCHES/README file contained in the LVM tarball
-or-
generated the LVM module but it is not lodable (compile/module install/
depmod failure).

Hi Heinz (good job to you and the team!)
How far back is the "old" metadata supported? I'm still running the "0.8 by Heinz Mauelshagen 04/11/1999" version that shipped on SuSE 6.4.
Lost in Tokyo,
Keith

i am willing to do a new kernel rpm for RH 7.1 including the LVM 1.0.1
tools and a corresponding lvm RPM, to help make this easier, and also
upgrade my system running on an old beta kernel with old beta tools ;)
do you know of any ETA for rc1 becoming the formal 1.0.1?, avoiding the
strings "beta", "rc" and any manual procedure is something that usually
makes packagers and package users happy :)
regards,
Carlo

Next couple of days, when we are convinced that some people have tried rc-1.

This is not a real answer about modules, more of a preference thing. I don't
use LVM in module form. Not because I don't like modules, but rather because
I know that they would always be loaded in every case and all the time so
there is no need to have them as a module. I compile both LVM and Reiserfs
into the kernel so the module problems are not an issue.
I understand in somecases where you are compiling things like X, sound, and a
bunch of other things ten this might result in a kernel that is to big to fit
on a 3.5 even if you do a bzimage. I don't so my kernel fits well inside one
even as it is monolithic.
Sorry for the "issue avoidance" but some things really do deserve to be in
the kernel and IMHO LVM , RAID, and ReiserFS fit in this category.
