Bug #110671 - Sony DCR-TRV460 HandyCam Not Recognized Properly

I have a Sony HandyCam DCR-TRV460 which allows USB streaming from a
live feed, from a Sony memory card, or from an 8mm tape.

The problem is that only the audio is recognized. I have tried every
video-capture tool available for Linux and none of them (even VLC)
recognize the camera.

When the camera is set to "USB STREAM" I should be able to open it as
a capture device. It worked fine under Windows XP with the official
driver from Sony, but I have never been able to get it to work under
Linux.

In Windows XP, the device is identified as
"USB\VID_054C&PID_00C0&REV_0100&MI_00". In Linux, using lsusb I get
"ID 054c:00c0 Sony Corp. Handycam DCR-30".

Attached are some details I hope you'll find helpful. I have no idea
what kernel version this ever worked properly on, or if it ever did as
I am new to Linux in the last 10 years and only discovered the problem
after finding some old tapes I wished to convert to digital while
cleaning out my attic this past weekend.

Please have a look at
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=110671 for the log
attachments in case the ones attached to this message don't show
properly.
