Hi all,

As the merge window is open, please do not add 2.6.27 material to your
linux-next included trees until after 2.6.36-rc1.

Changes since 20100803:

The nfs tree gained a build failure (on sparc) so I applied a fix patch.

The net tree lost its conflicts.

The rr tree gained a build failure due to an interaction with the nfs
tree so I applied a merge fix patch.

The suspend tree gained a conflict against the net tree.

The driver-core tree gained a build failure due to an interaction with
the pci tree so I applied a merge fix patch.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" as mentioned in the FAQ on the wiki
(see below).

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log files
in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built with
a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig for x86_64. After the
final fixups (if any), it is also built with powerpc allnoconfig (32 and
64 bit), ppc44x_defconfig and allyesconfig (minus
CONFIG_PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES - this fails its final link) and i386, sparc
and sparc64 defconfig. These builds also have
CONFIG_ENABLE_WARN_DEPRECATED, CONFIG_ENABLE_MUST_CHECK and
CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO disabled when necessary.

Below is a summary of the state of the merge.

We are up to 168 trees (counting Linus' and 22 trees of patches pending
for Linus' tree), more are welcome (even if they are currently empty).
Thanks to those who have contributed, and to those who haven't, please do.

Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.

Thanks to Jan Dittmer for adding the linux-next tree to his build tests
at http://l4x.org/k/ , the guys at http://test.kernel.org/ and Randy
Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds.

There is a wiki covering stuff to do with linux-next at
http://linux.f-seidel.de/linux-next/pmwiki/ . Thanks to Frank Seidel.

When CONFIG_BLOCK is not enabled, fs/ceph/rbd has:
file: fs/ceph/rbd.c: errors: 71, warnings: 18

This is due to BLOCK being spelled as CONFIG_BLOCK
(and depends on being spelled as select).

Build still fails in linux-next 20100809.

Anton, please pull from git://git.infradead.org/~dwmw2/battery-2.6.git
(or I can just push it, but I figured I'd ask first).

Hi all,

Changes since 20090803:

This tree fails to build for powerpc allyesconfig (final link problem).

The md-current tree lost its build failure.

The cpufreq tree lost its build failure.

The tip tree lost a conflict.

The oprofile tree lost its conflict.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/sfr/linux-next.git
(patches at
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/sfr/linux-next/). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the

CONFIG_PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES) and i386, sparc and sparc64 defconfig.
These builds also have CONFIG_ENABLE_WARN_DEPRECATED,
CONFIG_ENABLE_MUST_CHECK and CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO disabled when necessary.

Below is a summary of the state of the merge.

We are up to 138 trees (counting Linus' and 20 trees of patches pending for
Linus' tree), more are welcome (even if they are currently empty).

Good morning!

Stephen Rothwell [Mon, Aug 04, 2008 at 04:29:24PM +1000]:

I am currently trying to make linux-next a bit more debug-friendly
and merge your tree from time to time.

Thus I do:

   git-merge linux-next/master
   git-checkout linux-next/master $(git-ls-files --unmerged | awk '{ print $4 }')
   git-add $(git-ls-files --unmerged | awk '{ print $4 }')
   git-commit

The result can now be found at

   http://unix.schottelius.org/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=foreign/linux-2.6

respectively

   http://unix.schottelius.org/git/foreign/linux-2.6/

I'll use the merged result for testing linux-next, perhaps adding
other branches later to test which branches you merge from are
directly mergable, without the need for a rebase.

Sincerly,

Nico

Hi all,

[I managed to overwrite the merge log for today, sorry. I have still
appended a summary, though.]

Changes since next-20080801:

Temporarily dropped tree: v4l-dvb (got lots of conflicts against the
version that was merged to Linus).

Restored tree: acpi

Linus' tree is fixed for the sparc and powerpc builds.

The pci tree lost its conflict.

The tip-core tree gained a conflict against Linus' tree.

The kvm tree gained a conflict against Linus' tree.

I have also applied the following patch for known problems:

hfcmulti is not supported on big endian
Add cuImage.mpc866ads to the bootwrapper as a cuboot-8xx target
m68k: some asm-sparc include files moved
	Revert "Input: expand keycode space"

The sparc(32) defconfig build still fails - this is probably a toolchain
problem. I have fixed this by reverting the these commits from Linus'
tree:

UFS: add const to parser token table (f9247273cb69ba101877e946d2d83044409cc8c5)
	fix fs/nfs/nfsroot.c compilation (fb2e405fc1fc8b20d9c78eaa1c7fd5a297efde43)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/sfr/linux-next.git
(patches at
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/sfr/linux-next/). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the

After the
final fixups, it is also built with powerpc allnoconfig,
44x_defconfig and allyesconfig and i386, sparc and sparc64 defconfig.

Below is a summary of the state of the merge.

We are up to 106 trees (counting Linus' and 14 trees of patches pending for
Linus' tree), more are welcome (even if they are currently empty).
