Hi all,

The linux-next tree is now available from
git://github.com/sfrothwell/linux-next.git as a temporary measure while
the kernel.org servers are unavailable.

Changes since 20110927:

The net tree gained a conflict against the net-current tree.

The wireless tree gained a conflict against the wireless-current tree.

The trivial tree lost a conflict.

The pm tree gained a build failure so I used the version from
next-20110927.

The tmem tree lost its conflict.

The moduleh tree lost some conflicts but gained more against the net,
sound and staging trees. It also gained a build failures for which I
applied merge fix patches until it went too far and then I used the
version from next-20110927 for today.

The akpm tree gained a build failure for which I reverted 3 commits and 2
others for which I applied patches. Also, I dropped a couple of patches
that turned up elsewhere.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" as mentioned in the FAQ on the wiki
(see below).

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log files
in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built with
a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig for x86_64. After the
final fixups (if any), it is also built with powerpc allnoconfig (32 and
64 bit), ppc44x_defconfig and allyesconfig (minus
CONFIG_PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES - this fails its final link) and i386, sparc
and sparc64 defconfig. These builds also have
CONFIG_ENABLE_WARN_DEPRECATED, CONFIG_ENABLE_MUST_CHECK and
CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO disabled when necessary.

Below is a summary of the state of the merge.

We are up to 199 trees (counting Linus' and 27 trees of patches pending
for Linus' tree), more are welcome (even if they are currently empty).
Thanks to those who have contributed, and to those who haven't, please do.

Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.

Thanks to Randy Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds.

There is a wiki covering stuff to do with linux-next at
http://linux.f-seidel.de/linux-next/pmwiki/ . Thanks to Frank Seidel.

Both mt9t001.c and mt9p031.c have two identical issues, those
being that they will need module.h inclusion for the upcoming
cleanup going on there, and that their dependencies don't limit
selection of configs that will fail to compile as follows:

drivers/media/video/mt9p031.c:457: error: implicit declaration of function ‘v4l2_subdev_get_try_crop’
drivers/media/video/mt9t001.c:787: error: ‘struct v4l2_subdev’ has no member named ‘entity’

The related config options are CONFIG_MEDIA_CONTROLLER and
CONFIG_VIDEO_V4L2_SUBDEV_API. Looking at the code, it appears
that the driver was never intended to work without these enabled,
so add a dependency on CONFIG_VIDEO_V4L2_SUBDEV_API, which in
turn already has a dependency on CONFIG_MEDIA_CONTROLLER.

Sorry, I was assuming that this patch would be going together with the
other module.h trees. I'll apply it on my tree.

Thanks,
Mauro

Thanks. Since the files in question don't exist on mainline, there is no real
way I can have it directly on the module.h tree. If your file(s) needed the
export.h file, (which my tree creates) then I'd have carried it as a post-merge
delta to get past the chicken-and-egg problem of who's new file comes 1st.

But since your file really just needs module.h -- you can add it to your tree
right away. Plus the Kconfig change I made really should be SOB by the
folks who know the driver restrictions; I just made an educated guess.

Paul.

Hm, it's now 20111205 and this build error is still around.
Is there any hope for getting it fixed?

Don't think I saw the original report - I'll take a look. I imagine it's
just an X86_MRST that didn't get changed rightly.
