You mean all of BIOS, firmware and Linux driver are at version 4.71?

Where did you find BIOS 4.71 and firmware 4.71?
The latest BIOS & firmware I could find is 4.50.

There is, however a driver version 4.72 in the latest 2.4.4-ac
kernels.

Firmware is 4.70.17, I'v got it directly from IBM engineer.
Previous firmware (2 days ago) was really 4.50 but it performed worse
(was less stable in performance).

I've tried it but it was all the same - I came back to 4.71

That makes a bit more sense. This code is stil in test, however.
Previously you said 4.71.00.

It still seems like a BIOS issue. Does is work on a default RH
installation, with the RH included kernel?

             I can't believe it's not UNIX!!!

Your BIOS tables seemed wrong..

And your BIOS fails to set up the MTRR's properly. These are real BIOS
mistakes. They are ones Linux however took corrective action on.

Well, if you want I can try and reproduce your issue once I have
access to this machine. It may be about a week or so. RH 7.1 has
been tested on this machine, but not with ServeRaid 4.71.

Yes, I have the newest BIOS and SR Firmware.
I have 2 x 1GHz CPUs and IBM PCI ServeRAID 4.71.00 <ServeRAID 4L>

This may be way off, but have you flashed the BIOS to the most
current revision? This machine should work properly. How many
processors and what SR card are you using?

I'm trying to run Linux RH 7.1 on the rack-mounted
IBM xSeries 240 with ServeRAID but without success.
I've tried some kernels from 2.2.19-7.0.1smp up to
2.4.3-2.14.14.i686 and 2.4.4.

During boot all kernels reported errors (attached at the end).
When I try to write to disk (untar 100MB) machine almost hangs -
I must wait MINUTES for any simple "ll" or "who".

Thanks in advance for any help.
