Hi !

I just want to note that ACPI+3c59x is still not
working on the latest kernels - the only solution
is "acpi=off".

Affected are at least
IBM Thinkpad T21 http://lkml.org/lkml/2003/6/15/111
IBM Thinkpad A21p (3c556B Laptop Hurricane)

This problem is really known for a long time and
Alan wrote on 21 Jun 2003 that it should work on -ac
trees. http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/linux/linux-kernel/2003-24/1594.html

dmesg output of my A21p (on 2.6.0-test9) can be found on
http://www.hello-penguin.com/dmesg.txt

This "still broken" is too unspecific, 3c59x + ACPI works for me, in a
Gigabyte 7ZX-R (VIA KT133 based) mainboard, with SuSE 8.2 distro kernel
(ACPI 20030228), 2.4.22-pac1+acpi patches, and with latest 2.6.0-test9
BK.

I have two 3C905 and one 3C900Combo in a production router, everything
is the old "Boomerang" chip version. Rest assured I WOULD know if these
lost IRQs or were otherwise misconfigured.

Might the problems you observe be related to the IBM BIOS?

Yes. With IBM's DSDT, to be more specific. I've filed a bug in the bugzilla,
and tried to track it down, under careful guidance of Yu Luming, but general
lack of time stops me from actively pursuing this target.
Similar threads are appearing on this list regularly, and symptoms are very
close to this bug, so I'm sure this will be fixed eventually (someone's
comment about card not powering up (not entering D0) seems to be very close
to the truth).

Well, I could try a Dell BIOS on my A21p if buying a SCO-Linux license
doesn't fix the problem. :)

http://www.hello-penguin.com/thinkpad/
contains more info including a dump of /proc/acpi/dsdt
if somebody cares (to acpi_blacklist it).

Maybe this is interesting: It's a diff of lspci -vvvvvvvvv
without and with acpi enabled...

Don't do it - you will damage your 'book and void the warranty.

lspci -H1 -vv -xxx gives more results.
My dumps are at
http://www.relex.ru/~yarick/acpi
Bug number at bugme.osdl.org is 1188
