Hello,

I was trying to recomile my kernel and when configuring it I got the next
message:

Quote:
********

Menuconfig has encountered a possible error in one of the kernel's
configuration files and is unable to continue. Here is the error
report:

 Q> scripts/Menuconfig: line 832: MCmenu78: command not found

Please report this to the maintainer <mec@shout.net>. You may also
send a problem report to <linux-kernel@vger.kernel.org>.

Please indicate the kernel version you are trying to configure and
which menu you were trying to enter when this error occurred.

make: *** [menuconfig] Error 1

********
End quote.

Therefore, I'm reporting you that the kernel version is: linux-2.4.22-10mdk

The "uname -a" command returns:
"Linux core.ondems.com 2.4.22-10mdk #1 Thu Sep 18 12:30:58 CEST 2003 i686
unknown unknown GNU/Linux"

The menu I was trying to get into (when this error appeared) was the "Advanced
Linux Sound Architecture".

If it helps, before I was trying to enter into that submenu I removed the
support for *all* the sound cards in the "Sound" menu.

Hoping that it helps,

Best regards
Aurelian

This is an issue with Mandrake's ALSA integration in some older Mandrake
kernels. Try upgrading to the latest Mandrake kernel.

Matt

you sent that bugreport also to mec@shout.net?

That's a mandrake kernel which has ALSA for 2.4 included. The problem is out
there since months and I really can't read those reports here on lkml any
longer ;)

ciao, Marc

Hi Marc,

Yes I did, and he replied that he's off the linux kernel development. He told me
to write to you.

I hope not. ^_^;

http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/linux/linux-kernel/2003-21/0234.html

Maybe something like the following would be appropriate? (Of course, the
real issue is to get Mandrake to say "Please report this to
someone@mandrake-linux.com" ... )

(For the Mandrake people, lkml gets occasional messages from people
building Mandrake kernels where Menuconfig fails at the ALSA menu
due to a bug that's been fixed in Mandrake sources for a while, the
attached patch will at least make sure lkml and the previous kbuild
maintainer don't get those messages anymore; it also hints that people
should try with a newer distro kernel.)

Matt

Remove visible references to mec@shout.net from Menuconfig, since he
  no longer maintains it.

that would be for stable releases:

and for Cooker:

I'll add it to my kernels,
and hopefully Juan will add it to the main MDK kernels...
