After upgrading kernel 2.6.7 to 2.6.9-rc3 my parallel printer can't be found
anymore. Same situation with rc4. The .config file is the same as for 2.6.7.
Starting kernel 2.6.7 makes printer available again. Printer is a Brother HL
1430, which never made troubles before. Bios is set to ECP/EPP.

With kernel 2.6.9-rc4-mm1 the parallel printer is visible again.

My parallel port had also disappeared, also with 2.6.9-final.
I get the message:
lp: driver loaded but no devices found
In /proc/ioports there is a line:
0378-037a : winbond parport

It looks like the patch from Olaf Hering <olh@suse.de>

causes the problem.
A patch from Andrea Arcangeli <andrea@novell.com>
http://www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0409.3/1515.html
corrects the problem.
It looks like the Linus tree only has Olaf's patch.
Andrew's tree (mm) has Andrea's patch.
