The trivial patch below still applies against 2.6.10-rc2-mm2.

Please apply.

Subject: [2.6 patch] remove obsolete Computone MAINTAINERS entry

I'm not sure whether it makes sense to list the previous maintainers for
orphaned code, but if such entries contain buouncing mail addresses it's
IMHO time to simply remove them.

wittsend.com is still there and Michael still runs it.

At least the listed mailing list is defunct:

<linux-computone@lazuli.wittsend.com>:
Sorry, I wasn't able to establish an SMTP connection. (#4.4.1)
I'm not going to try again; this message has been in the queue too long.

And to be honest, I don't see that much value in shiping entries in
MAINTAINERS for people who have reseigned as maintainers.

If someone is willing to step up to the plate and get the driver working again, it
would be better to have the contact information for the old maintainer available
in a centralized location. Plus, anyone who tries the driver and finds it busted
can look in the MAINTAINERS file and find out that it's not being fixed, instead
of it being one of those drivers that has no defined maintainer (I've run across a
few).

After all, we do have to be honest about unmaintained drivers - rather than hiding
broken code. Honestly, it's better to define who's responsible for an area of
code, even if it no longer works.

It's still in Documentation/computone.txt, and if someone wants to do
seroious work on an orphaned driver, I assume he'll start with reading
the driver and documentation.

MAINTAINERS does not cover all drivers.
It's not about being honest or about hiding broken code, but adding
let's say fifty entries for no longer supported drivers isn't of any
practical value.

At least I'm checking MAINTAINERS for people who want to receive the
patches I send today, not for people who have worked on the driver at
some time in the past. Adding information about orphaned drivers to this
file simply makes it harder to find whether valid entries covering the
driver in question exist.

If someone steps up and wants to generate and maintain a driver status
document that would be fine with me. But this would require a serious
amount of work and is more than just adding a few orphaned drivers to
MAINTAINERS.

Yeah, I'm still here. I've just been out of town almost one
week out of every two since June, so I'm more than a little behind on
catching up on the kernel stuff (yes and the Samba stuff as well,
I know, I know, sigh...).

The message from James ended up in one of my spam cans (CRM-114)
and I missed it. He only tried once. I only found this because I
jumped onto the list archive trying to find references to system clocks
going crazy (loosing or gaining time like mad and ntp unable to keep up)
and ran across the threads...

I've got two patches in my queue for the Computone drivers for
2.6 plus three patches that apply to both the 2.4 and 2.6 kernels. I've
got to check to see if Marcelo got around to integrating those patches
into 2.4 and then jump onto the combined patches.

As Shrek said... (You didn't slay the dragon?) - "It's on my
todo list".

At least the mailing list is definitely dead:

<linux-computone@lazuli.wittsend.com>:
Sorry, I wasn't able to establish an SMTP connection. (#4.4.1)
I'm not going to try again; this message has been in the queue too long.

It seems you are still active :-) , so why is it "Orphaned"?

The mailing list use to be run by Louis Zamora who use to work for
Computone. Guess I need to deal with that and move it to some of my
own hardware. I hadn't realized it was out of commission.

Good question. Probably someone jumping the gun a bit because
I haven't been very active on that driver lately. I do tend to drop
off the radar for months at a time, depending on other projects and
engagements. I haven't done updates to the driver in the 2.6 kernel
and, yes, it is broken.

Marcelo integrated my 2.4 patches and I've got testers running
that code now. I've got a 2.6 patch that integrates those fixes and
fixes some 2.6 problems. In the course of working on the 2.6 patch
I stumbled onto another problem that had to be retrofitted back into
the 2.4 patch which, fortunately, made it into the patch I gave to
Marcelo. I'm looking over a couple of other changes that went in with
that 2.4 update. I'll try and get a patch out in a couple of days
against 2.6.10.
